Hey everyone, I have a website that is ranked pretty well for it's niche. I think the domain name is not so good and that's probably costing me a lot of clicks. Users online usualy looks at the url before coming in to the site and a good domain usualy gets better CTR. Anyway, how can i change the domain name for the site and still enjoy the history the old domain name has gained. I know that there are right and wrong ways to redirect traffic from the old domain to the new one. I'm not sure what to do so i wont lose my rankings in the major SEs... Anyone knows what should i do? Anyone had experiece with redirecting and keeping the organic search rankings? Thanks.
make sure that all redirects to any new site from your old one are 301 redirects (I think) and this should not be a problem in passing on the benefit of your old site to your new one. These links can all be entered into via your .htaccess file
Hi Clix99, Do you have a shared hosting account with access to 301 redirect? You can do it manually via the .htaccess file, but if you are inexperienced it may be a pain, but to answer your question, the 301 is the most efficient alternative to changing your domain name for good, keeping your current rankings and possibly even increasing rankings with a better domain name.
