I'm looking for a sortof credit cards online 101? Or a how-to book. I'm looking for a book or collection of articles that will explain to me:
    - how to pick a merchant account vendor?
    - what are the pros & cons of commercial shopping carts versus my own?
    - If I'm doing recurring billing, is it better to keep my database of credit cards myself (incurring all sorts of liability risk) versus leaving them at the vendor (creating all sorts of dependencies on the vendor0?
    - How best to handle customer issues and avoid chargebacks?
    - Should I have serveral merchant accounts or just one?
    - Whats a realistic cost for recurring credit card billing?
    - Are there any tricks to help with credit card declines?

And probably lots of other questions that I'm sure to encounter.

WOW - Thats the mother load of information. Thanks.
I'm actually looking for a new vendor for a new site that I'm putting together. My current site runs a lot of money thru a very obscure processor so I don't want to put any more eggs in that basket.
Are there any issues about having different processors for different sites?

If you're happy with it, then its fine. Most of the processors don't bother about what you have on other sites you own.
