Hello everybody, I am thinking of starting a site implementing Google maps API, where members can create an account, post to the map on different locations like [My Scool], [Soccer Stadium], etc... and also allow other members to comment on the locations. However, I am trying to find out some of the coolest examples of sites using the Google maps API so I can finalize my requirements before sending the project to the programmers. This is where you can help. If you can post here the coolest websites you know that implement Google Maps API that would be great. Thanks in advance, Regards,
Thanks AdamSee, but its not as cool as I have seen before. There was a really cool one I saw a few months ago but I just cant seem to find it.
Can the same Google map API be used for generating different maps on different domains? A PM is appreciated. Thanks, Rick
Have you look around Google Maps Mania. I put a few cool things into SalaryMap.com like the little map within the map, tabs on the pop up and logos if certain skills were indicated. It's nothing spectacular but it's a few features to consider.
Ive just added a simple google maps mash up - http://www.goldcoastchat.com.au/maps Anybody else working on mash ups of map api's?
www.housingmaps.com - is one of early success and was listed on google site (code.google.com I guess)
Very hard to be impressive in the housing industry.Much harder to impress than strip clubs, no? if you go to my website (the Louisville one in my sig...) Then go to New Home Showcase. Props to my intern Chris for putting it together. Our first attempt--I have seen lots better, but it accomplishes what we need and drives decent traffic from the front page. Please let me know what you think... Best Eric
Eric, You have some nice features there. You (and everyone else) should submit their Maps applications to GoogleMapsMania. I sent them a note about SalaryMap.com a couple weeks back and found out that they added it to their site about two days back. It was a nice bump in traffic.
Here is one that we built did for a Toronto condo website. It essentially posts our own custom icons on a map of condos with outlines of areas. The icons gets automatically added to the Google Map when a new condo is added. The user can then filter the display based on different criteria both with check boxes and via an advanced search feature. livehigh.com/condo-search.php
Yes, you can, but you need to generate API key for each domain and then add small piece of code when page loads to identify domain and assign its API key on a fly, so script won't be throwing error that API key does not match domain.
shameless site plug... http://www.houseme.ca (load markers on demand) only shows the viewable area markers. if anyone needs help or has questions on how its implemented i can provide information
I'd also try out the sites like programmableweb.com in order to see cool examples of sites - you should try for a mobile app including a location based service with incentives to the users for them "checking in"
