I think the article went on to state that Obama doesn't have much of a connection to William Aryes, I doubt that since it did come from the NY Times.

Well, Palin ;) sleeps with a man who wants Alaska to secede from the union! I'd say that's a more intimate connection.

There are people who say Texas was never ratified into the Union, that is different then buddying around with a guy with started a group that bombed the Pentagon and police stations around the United States. Would you vote for McCain if he was friends with Bin Laden? Also shouldn't this raise red flags about Obama's judgment for his ability to even associate with William Aryes.

Palin: We see America as a force of good in this world.

She needs to buy herself a new pair of glasses

This is old news dug up by an increasingly desperate Republican machine.

There was a loose connection in that Prof. Ayes lived in the same neighbourhood as the Obama's and sat on the same boards for couple of non-profits.

Anyway, give me the Weathermen any day over Palin and her friends

He didn't "buddy around" with Ayers, that's a false statement. They were both on the boards of non profit projects for school projects. Are you suggesting Obama should have quit the board when he found out Ayers was also on the board? Isn't the non profit school project more important than the people who are also on the board? Or do you not care about improving school conditions in Chicago? I understand Obama made a phone call to Ayers about politics, I still don't think that constitutes a "buddy" relationship. You are using exaggeration, false statements and guilt by association, to justify your position.

Vote for McCain if you want, but stick to the real issues and the truth.

    Check out Gallup.com.
McCain 42%, down one point from yesterday.
    Obama 50%, holding steady.

Palin cited an article in Saturday's New York Times about Obama's relationship with Ayers, now 63. But that article concluded that "the two men do not appear to have been close. Nor has Mr. Obama ever expressed sympathy for the radical views and actions of Mr. Ayers, whom he has called 'somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was 8.' "

    This was from CNN.com

Now I can't really say much, but before you short sight the article, you need to read the WHOLE thing in order to pick up the message. It was taken out of context and you know it. You got brainwashed and side tracked because of McSame / Fallin.

I think Obama has a bigger relationship with Ayers than he is telling everyone.

I hope Ayers has changed his views.

"They live in the same Chicago neighborhood, and in 1995, Obama attended a political meeting at Ayers' home. Obama and Ayers also served together on a Chicago charity from 1995 to 1999."

Obama is lying about his relationship with domestic terrorist William Ayers. Obama nickname should be called the spin DR. Why is Obama lying? Obama gets another free pass.

    My Question.....

    So fucking what????

Ayers was anti-government. (Just like a LOT of this country was in the 60s)

Bin Laden and co is anti-American.

There is a HUGE difference between people who want to kill us all if we do not convert and think they are fighting a holy war against us. And someone who tried to bomb police stations (and never killed anyone).

Did Ayers get too worked up and take that hippie shit WAY to far? Of course he did. But Bin Laden he is not.

I often think it takes a special kind of stupid to fall for Republican smear and fear campaigns..... They are using this as an excuse to use the word terrorist and Obama in the same sentence because they know uninformed super-idiots like some of you will in your mind make Bill Ayers and Osama Bin Ladin one in the same.

Geez.... I sometimes forget we're the country that elected Bush...... twice

I know I have no basis to insist, but in my opinion it sure would save some bandwidth if rather than creating separate threads whenever losing the position on one thread, Biz would just stick to the one place.

I will distinguish the smear, which attempts to portray Obama as some kind of pal to Ayres, from the actions of Ayres and the Weather Underground itself.

Decades ago, as a student at Berkeley, I had once incidentally met Mario Savio, and it was after that I was piqued to explore the entire history of the '60's "student movement." My first introduction to the Weathermen and their later Underground iteration came by my having read a brilliant book on the history of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) (title eludes me).

The Weathermen/Underground were a bunch of spoiled, dangerous assholes, believing in violent revolution to achieve their stated aims. They pursued a campaign of murder and mayhem, and people died, including, finally, some of their own members when a bomb intended to kill police officers at an officer's dance went off prematurely. It was only after the death of those members, in a Greenwich Village apartment, that the Weatherman/Underground changed course, rejecting the notion of human casualties to achieve their aims.

I think it's important to both condemn the hate-filled smears coming out of McCain's campaign, and the hatred espoused by Ayres and the Weathermen itself. Obama has done that, and I agree with him.

Edit: Here's the book I mentioned. SDS, by Kirkpatrick Sale.

Politicians are capable of doing any thing as well as saying anything. So we should not trust a politicians view. Today they will say one thing and the very next day they will say the opposite and explain in style why both are correct. :D

I think the problem most people have is that their relationship was more than waving while passing. Why is Obama down playing his involvement with Ayers? I think or at least hope Ayers has changed his ways.
