Open source search engine is the way to beat Google. I am getting a bachelors degree in CS.

 

I just want to know what the work will be. Then I will decide

 

Seeing the way Cuil went, it seems a hard task. A specialty search engine is more likely to succeed.

 

Do I need to be skilled in programming to be interested in this?

 

No you do not need to have any skill in programming but you need to know how to do somethings such as advertise etc. Also I will like to meet with everyone on msn or aim so please private message me with your msn or aim and well talk futher after that because i can't send out private messages to everyone because this forum only gives out 5 recepients so please just message me with your msn or aim address and i'll contact you futher after that. I'm not sure any amount of geniuses could topple Google, there's a whole lot of people to convert.

 

Google will take over the world if somebody doesn't stop it now =P.

Googles strong point, pagerank, its also its weakness. It is slow and incomplete. A new page evaluation can take 6 weeks, a new ranking three months. To get a new product or new offer anywhere in sight in Google I need a high ranking page or I need to get very lucky, but Google sucks for short term commerce.

If you can offer a system that allows for product-pages to achieve front page in three days then you have a system that is more attractive to commerce than Google.

If I want regional products, right now, I cannot find them in Google, especially the 'on sale' stuff.

If you made a special engine that grabs metatags (product code, geo.data, expire-date, price, picture url) or RDF style on-page data and offers only valid stuff then you have a winner. with a CMS it takes a day maybe to add a new set of 'product' meta-tags, crawl the site and you got an up to date product catalogue.

Type in "irish coffee london" and get a list with all point-of-sales in the london region where I can get an Irish Coffee, with a price and picture and a snippet.

I can't imagine no one ever thought of that before, though

you dont have to call him a loser , he has all rights to post whatever he feels in this public forum(other than being abusive) ,he never mentioned anything about you personally.

From the Last 3 days of chat , i have just beed fooled by this guy..

Day1 he asked me a better name..i suggested a name..he accepted and agreed to work on it

Day2 i started do my works..creating a community and things for the developer

Day3 he changed his mind and told me that "he want to create HIS Search Engine" ..that is like, everyone has to work FOR him rather than working WITH him to build it.

i was really dedicated and committed on this i never know that this thread was posted just to promote his Old SearchEngine.
seems like i have wasted 3 days/even full night , so many hours for this BS.

when i asked about the change of mind he said ,
his reasons were

1) his mum whats that domain
2) he said someone beside him prefered Sierri
3)because he has worked almost one year on this Sierri Project , huh what ? one year ? domain was registered on 21-5-08 !
4)because thats 1 month after and 1 day before his birthday
5) coz he already got 3 staff members

after hours hours of talking and talking..he asked me to find someone who can provide him a VB license.
i told him i already have one myself which is a Owned license

Change of Mind again

he said if i can suggest him a better domain than sierri , he said he will accept
umm ,hold on, you said you have already started working on sierri for almost a year and cant change, what happened to you now ? VB changed your mind ?

When asking why he hated the previsouly agreed domain , he simply says "dont talk abt it"

and another day passed , i started searching for a better domain , i gave him a list of domains. he didn pick any or even talking abt it
straight way he came to sierri and said that was final


[update]Guys ,knw what ? he removed the forum i created for the Developer team..and now building his own forum
he says he already started it , but no just a day back thts why he asked me for the VB script

You gotta learn to pick your battles.

 

i can only ask you guys not to waste your time with this man.

he will agree with something..the next day will ask you to wait for the whole night to talk abt his change of mind.

in short , all these were done just to promote his Search Engine..nothing much

 

You should have known better. I mean here's a person who is looking at fighting it out with the likes of Google, Yahoo, MSN but does not want to spend money on buying a $120 VB license! Can't believe you fell for it.

Is the hosting also on a free server?
