The cheap DR condos look like a great place for an online business.

tesla is one of the most disturbing guys with unstable mind I have ever seen in DP. He wants to relocate, he wants to be millionare, then billionare, then even childfree. Then save more than everyone else (while he earns not so much at all, so guess where is a point of saving peanuts, lol ?). Then invest all he have in gold. If you look trough his posts you do have so much fun like you are watching reality show:)

I just hope that US people will solve this problem (fin crisis) in next 6 monthes and all will be OK! I am not US citizen but support them. But a lot of losers in this thread somehow support his crazy ideas. It will not be a big loss if they relocate to somewhere else place like rats from the ship.

Maybe you would like to look at the thread in Politics view rather than using a microscope on the poster? We are not interested in a member profile or the interpretation of a member's state of mentality and rather on the political issue at stake. Kindly stick to the thread topic and deeply appreciated.

Being politically right isn't a criteria for the Politics forum, you just need to keep the personal attacks to yourself and concentrate on the political aspects, you can be a traitor or patriot, there is no issue on this. The forum does not demand that all must be patriots or traitors. You can have differing political views and argue them out. We do not have any issues on that, in fact it is good to encourage those with differing political views to voice them out.

Anyone without cajones should stay out of Honduras. I like to go out to the mountains and stay a few days alone. It's a great way to relax and even make some money. It's very easy to buy a few acres of land in the mountains and plant coffee. $1000 a mazana is a good range for land suitable to be planted. With cash you may be able to get a better deal. Property should have either dominio pleno or escritura publica. Lets say you purchased 2 manzanas for $1500 and planted it yourself. Really not much of a risk. Two manzanas of coffee should produce as much as 30 sacks of coffee a year.

The key is not to put all your eggs in one basket and have a lot of different businesses that can bring you some cash.

I now someone that buys red beans at harvest and stores them to sell after the dry season. Frijoles rojo are a central american speciality product and there is quite a demand. With a place to store them on pallets you could eaisly stack up 2000 quintals. One quintal = 100 lb sack. Expect to make at least 5 lempiras profit per pound. That's 1 million lempiras gross profit. Let's say that you only make 2 lempiras profit. That's 400,000 lempiras. You could do the same with african palm on the North Coast.

The capital of Honduras is expensive. A good building lot will cost $50,000 or around $170 per v2. However a small house with an enclosed parking lot (suitable to be used as a warehouse) may be purchased for around $40,000 in a middle class neighborhood. You could later add a second floor to the house and even a partial third floor office with balcony. Most of the middle class families are entreprenurs and businessman. Many have family in the US and some may even be US citizens or have greencards.

Some other business you can do online is to set up a Honduras real estate page and partner with a small honduran real estate company to sell properties or houses.

It's also useful to build a small house in one of the smaller cities. This will serve a base for you to check on your small plantations and store the harvest. In a small town you should be able to get a building lot for $5000. Building materials and local lumber are 50% the cost of the capital in places like Guimaca, Julticalpa or Catacamas. You should be able to build a nice house for around $15,000. The house could also be rented out on a monthly basis to americans looking to get away from it all.

If you are worried about getting a residence card, you could marry a local girl. It shouldn't be too much trouble to find one.

Check out Panama. You can buy citizenship and its a tax haven as long as your business does not operate in Panama (ie. internet business).

I'll meet you down there, Bogart. Call Yolanda and tell her. Have some margaritas(or whatever the local exoctic-type-latin-american drink is) ready.
What's the internets like in Honduras?

This isn't so much of an issue about cajones as it is about safety. :) I want to leave the U.S. because the government is corrupt and out of control, and the last thing I want to do is to move to a kleptocratic country where the government is even more corrupt. Its like jumping out the fire and into the frying pan. Besides, the cemeteries are full of guys who had "cajones" but not brains.

My Spanish really isn't good enough for Honduras, and I've been talking to some people in DR, and I could get a Condo there pretty easily. But I think I will stay here in the U.S. for a while, perhaps take a vacation to DR in February to see how I like it, then make plans to move there once I have more money and my Spanish is a lot better.

I talked to a wealthy Hispanic guy who told me that much of Latin America is totally dependent on the U.S., and should our country go into a major economic collapse, Latin America would suffer greatly as well. In fact, it would be better to go there if the economy was good as opposed to bad, and many people in this forum have advised me about this. However, I have every intention of buying land and property outside the U.S. at some point in the near future....

Also, you have to put down a large down payment for the condo, and I feel as though $10,000 could be invested in a variety of different ventures which would could bring back a handsome return. I would rather invest money right now in gold or one of my other ideas as opposed to making a down payment on DR condo. I have a growing network of business contacts here in the U.S. that can allow me to make money, so my gut tells me to stick around for a while. If push comes to shove, I can always go rent a property in DR as opposed to buying it. I may also take a short vacation to Honduras as well.

But I'm definitely going on vacation before my 27th birthday, I deserve a trip. By the way Bogart, those girls you posted are absolutely gorgeous. :D

I actually take this as a type of compliment. :) I'm still not that optimistic about the future of the U.S., but there really isn't anywhere to go that won't be effected. If our economy collapses, and the government declares martial law, it will be time to get some guns and head out to a remote area to wait things out. I also want to stay close to my gold and silver. Being a foreign country far away from my metals makes me nervous. I need to be able to access them quickly in the event of an emergency.

I also wanted to add that I hope and pray the dollar doesn't collapse. This is the worst thing that could happen. If the dollar collapses, all hope is lost. I would definitely like to see gold hit $2,000+ per ounce, and silver reach $100 per ounce, but not at the expense of the dollar having a zero value.

tesla, so you live in US are about 27 years old and write this...

"large down payment for the condo" looool, can only guess downpayment for house will stress you to death.

"have a growing network of business contacts here in the U.S." And how is it going ?:) Did they help to accumulate $10k for downpayment in honduras or DR ?

Tip - gold is for saving money even on crisis.

"but there really isn't anywhere to go that won't be effected." oh, at least you are not that stupid as I thought.

Wouldn't it make more sense using the report button than wasting posting space tattle tailing?

And is this really so bad that it would require your wasting the time of those subscribed in this thread, as well as the moderators for something so trivial?

Sheesh... So much for intellectual discussion and good debate.

BTW, there's this really neato feature in VB. It's called an Ignore button. I've been using it more and more every day to eliminate the clutter. Then again, I don't cry when someone insults me. I just tend to ignore them and move on.

So, to change the subject, I wanted to post a link to a video where Jim Rogers lays the smack down on people interviewing him. You guys can see the video here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIsH...rs-have-unleashed-inflationary-holocaust.html

Jim Rogers is a practical man who understands basic economics and tells it like it is. Watching the video under the link above is very entertaining, Rogers makes the people interviewing him look like grade A morons. Pay real close attention to the end, where Rogers has to talk to the guy like a child, explaining to him the simple concept of the government driving down the value of currency by printing too much money.
