I just created my new directory for the first time and I have no idea how can I attract people to submit their link there as the directory has no page rank yet. At the mean time, I am working hard on building backlinks and hopefully I will gain a higher PR when next time google update. But what else can I do now to encourage more submission except forum posting? I need advises from directories owners. Thanks a lot!
You can always submit it to other directory sites.. check out the solicitations and announcements portion of this forum.
Submit your directory to other good directories. You can find new directories as well as old good directories at Solicitations & Announcements section of this forum. Also find good directories (free and paid both) at info.vilesilencer.com and directorycritic.com Other option is hire someone to submit your directory to other directories at nominal charge. DON.
Apart from directory submissions and forum posting, you can as well attract a lot of traffic by getting a few well-visited sites to place your banner ads on their home pages.

Although the OP is banned, I will have to say it is an excellent question. Vilesilencer has always been a great place to promote your directory. From there, the various Webmaster type forums like v7N, SEOforums, DP, and others. The link you signature as mentioned is another good place. Simply listing your directory in OTHER directories, specifically those that are niche' based directories of directories is a GREAT place to start as well. Good luck!

Put at your signature... and some directory owner using same method for advertising they site. Just search at google "How to advertise my site"... if you just focus advertise at forum, it will give small effect after that... because have a lot spam submission. so the best thing make all type advertising... And it shall have a good traffic for next month.
personally I wouldnt advise sponsoring themes unless you want your directory penalised as has happened to a lot of other directories using the same method
I have a directory which is less than 2 months old and have a hard time keeping up with reviewing submissions. I kick about 30% to the curb and am about 150 behind right now. Am nearing 2,000 resources listed and big G. granted me a PR2. I announced here and a couple non-directory forums plus I think 3 free directory submissions. Actually it started out as a play toy but I see that changing. My secret is free, free, free with no reciprocal link required. Monetization will come later.
