btw, if you need more than one domain you need to have more than one yahoo account and register one domain per account.

Thanks for this one, I was looking for where to get a cheap .com. Only downside is if you leave it at yahoo it is $35 a year. Luckily you can just push to godaddy 60 days after registering. Thanks alot now I have 3 new .coms

Actually they are a reseller and use real registrars like Melbourne IT from Australia. They are not truly a registrar.

I also had a terrible time transfering out a domain with them, I believe I documented my experience with them before. It took 10 days to get my domain transfered and their customer service is terrible. Just experessin my experience. I use GoDaddy and Moniker.

Thanks for the information. Everyone says it's hard to transfer... What's so hard? They authorization code is in the account so you don't need to call support like register.com. Is there something else I should know about transfering out?

You obviously haven't been looking around hard enough, and, infact, a lot of the bigger domain registrars charge less than $10, and I know that name only charge $6 for the first year and then $9 onwards....

Listen guys Yahoo is a big company but that doesnt mean that they are a good one for every aspect of their business. They are in the domain selling business as a reseller not a registrar. They resell domains for registrars like Melbourne IT out of Australia.

I had several issues with them, the first was that they automatically renewed domains at $34.99 each and I had about 10 domains with them. Trying to reach their customer service was very difficult and email replies can take 2-3 days. I sold one of my sites and tried transferring the domain to the new owner, after 5 days it had not gone thru. I emailed and got no reply, I called and spoke to several people and they finally told me they did not know what was going on with the domain and I had to call the actual registrar Melbourne IT, they explained they were just resellers hence the huge renewal fees (thats how they make their money). I had to call Australia and they figured out that Yahoo had not processed the release of the domain properly so they asked me to Yahoo back. I did that and they insisted it wasn't on their end. Eventually after more calls to Australia and Yahoo they finally figured it out. It was TERRIBLE!!! The new owner thought I was trying to pull a fast one on him and was trying to back out of the deal of an 11k site I had sold him.

I am just giving you guys my experience with them, just cause they are BIG does not mean they are good at everything. My letter to them stated they should get out of the domain selling business. Such a big company playing such a slick game and charging over $30 to renew a domain that would cost under $10 anywhere else should give you an idea of what you will be dealing with. I read someone here say just trasnfer the domain two weeks before, I would suggest to do it 2 months before to be on the safe side, their domain business is shady!
