Hello DP member, Few days ago I sold this person http://forums.digitalpoint.com/member.php?u=23844 my ubuntustore.com script with full resale rights at 130 $ as a first resale copy. Now today I opened my paypal account to see that the transaction made by him is disputed over unauthorized transaction. This is what is writen on paypal . Transfer to: Unauthorized Total Amount: -$130.00 USD Fee: $7.97 USD Total: -$130.00 USD Date: 05-Oct.-2008 Time: 23:48:10 IST Status: Placed Subject: You have sent $122.03 USD to Unauthorized with PayPal Code (markup): I have mailed the script to same address as the paypal email id from which I received money. What should I do ? I have all the emails and chats information regarding the person. Please give some suggestion .
That's a major drawback of using PayPal for "Non-tangible" goods. It happens all the time here. People sell domains, scripts, services, then the buyer disputes the charges and in most cases PayPal rules in their favor. If you can't supply a proof of delivery to a verified address, you will most likely lose. It is definitely worth trying to contact PayPal, maybe even by phone and tell them what happened and that you have the emails, chats, etc. I wouldn't get my hopes up, though. Be sure you leave appropriate iTrader for the buyer so others here know not to trade with the person via PayPal, or not at all for that matter. In the future, you might want to consider Moneybookers, or another processor that doesn't have chargebacks. Good luck, I do hope you get your money back.
i too got this type of of charge back. its because of a stolen cc payments btw paypal takes 11$ fee from your account later when you are going to resolve this issue
yeah i tried to resolve and give the details of sold DB files and those idiots deducted 11$ as fee ( fee to make claims with cc card company )
I agree with dilluzionz that use of Paypal is a major drawback of using PayPal for "Non-tangible" goods. According to me there is no hope that you will get back the money. But you should try every possible way to provide information to paypal that the buyer cheated with you. Maybe paypal could track the buyer and make his account limited. Maybe the seller funded his paypal using a stolen paypal account and again he has willingly claimed an unauthorized payment. You have to be careful for making this kind of transaction.
I've send the PM to bellweather , if doesnt reply in two three days, I will take charge against him .
I have wondered if a way to prevent these chargebacks from PayPal might be to do the following: 1) Insist on buyer being PayPal verified 2) Insist that buyer provide a PayPal confirmed shipping address in the transaction and that they select "goods" as the transaction/purchase type. 3) Mail a letter, or receipt for digital items to confirmed address with delivery confirmation 4) Only send digital items after you have proof of delivery of letter/receipt Sounds like a bit of a hassle, but at least then you could provide PayPal with a delivery confirmation. Just a thought.
I haven't tried it yet, but I think it should work. It depends on the amount of money involved and at what level you want to try to eliminate as much risk as possible. It's worth a try, as it only costs you extra for postage and delivery confirmation. Maybe if person was a dedictaed scammer, they still might dispute "Item not as advertised", but then they would have to show proof of return!
If you have previous contact with this person make you provide screenshots of all the messages or emails you have.
Hello, Just few hours back a new customer (Mr. Scott Wicks) has signed up and register two different domains. (playinghighluck.com & playinghighluck.net) BUT buyer has paid that amount in different name in PayPal with Mr. Steven VanGorder and charged back the amount. Buyer registrant/WHOIS email and paypal is same as . you can view the snapshot at sprightlymedia.com/paypal.jpg Paypal do not provide any security to seller if they are dealing in services.
Well, this might sounds harsh but I do feel that it served you right. You're selling a script and went the script does not do what you say it does, you went missing. I know that he is banned but I just noticed this thread. And yes, his script has problems. A lot of problem. And btw, I'm not that person who he mentioned above although I wish I am. Losing $50 for sucky script. bleh. Oh, yeah, paypal is kinda sucks. I got chargeback too on couple products of mine. Although on the sales page now I written "Refund will only be given provides the proof method does not work."
