Hostgator in CJ...this is the answer I got.

I am promoting Hostgator in CJ and gave a sale away which should have made me $100 but I got nothing.

So I contacted their affiliate manager through CJ's interface.

    My first question was :

    How are the stats updated?

    Answer I got :

Commissions are updated in real time and will show right away.

Cancellations are audited for, and we are unable to award commission for accounts that cancel.

Ok what is that really mean? I give a sale away, stats will update, means I will have $100 in my account. Then it will be audited? As I know, any cancellation before 2 months/60days will be canceled. So if I am expecting a cheque before the 2 months from CJ, will the $100 commission included?

    My second question was :

Then why I am not getting the commission for an account sale that I gave away? (I gave the details of website that hosted in their hosting through my sale - which was bought by my friend)

    The answer I got :

There is no such website hosted in our hosting.

    What??!
Anyone facing such problem with hostgator in CJ?

I believe the way Hostgator works is that you have to wait for the candidate to do their time before you're awarded the commission.

Think about it for a minute.

Same situation here: CJ just took away $100 (Hostgator com.) from my account.

    Reason:
The advertiser has stated the reason behind the reversal of the commission as "other". For further clarification on this, please contact the advertiser directly through your Mail tab within your CJ Account Manager......

Did you mean that the customer ended their service with hostgator before the 2 months?

I have a friend that is promoting HG using their insite affiliate program, he was making $50 for each sale and then contacted the affiliate manager and he adjusted it to $100 a sale. The service provided by HG there is better.
He told me that they will check the account for 60days to see if there is any cancellation or fraud, after that they will pay through paypal or cheque.

I think it is better to try them there rather than in paypal.

I've seen so many complaints on this forum about Hostgator playing games with commissions and affiliates never getting paid. A search brings up many similar stories.

Wow sorry to turn you off like this. I see there are a few complaints on hostgator but at the sametime, the reason I choose them is because I also saw many affiliates getting paid with proof.

Just google "Commission Junction earnings" and check the images out. There you will find an image of someone's account and he/she have been paid $5600 from hostgator. Adding to that, my friend have been getting paid for last 6 months.

The reason I started this thread is to find out how the hostgator affilate really works, and then my friend told me that they will review the hosting for 2 months and then will pay to avoid any early cancellation and frauds - which every hosting companies does (some even take up to 120days).

So for me, hostgator is a thumbs up. I will stop them in my CJ and open an affiliate account directly in their site.

Hey if you still want to get the hosting with them, pm me and I will give you a good offer..I can pay 3 months hosting for you..;)

Is Host Gator a reseller for Blue Host? The website look very similar. Anyway, does anyone have an opinion on becoming an affiliate with CJ or any other affiliate site versus becoming a direct affiliate with the client?

I am not so sure about that, but bluehost is paying $65 commission and the review period is for 90-120 days compared to $100 from HG with review period of just 60 days. From my friend's feedback, being an affiliate straight with HG is better than being through CJ and it is common sense actually. CJ will surely cut their commission and will pay $50 to us instead of $100 that HG is providing.

    HG : HostGator :)

No they are not. HostGator uses ThePlanet's servers. Bluehost and Hostmonster are the same company though.
