I just got off the phone with the sales rep from 1and1

    this was his response ...

"We run something called CRON JOBs. We let all the domain names accummulate and a few times during the day we register them..."

    WOW!

What kind of grass do these guys smoke? Really??

So what this really means is -- "Yo if the domain name is important to you and if it Has any Keyword value or is competitive don't bother buying from us, coz by the time we run what we call "CRON JOBS" your domain might already be registered by someone else who wasn't dumb enuff to use 1and1 to register a domain"

RIDICULOUS .... NEVER AGAIN AM I USING THEM!

So anyone lose a domain coz of them idiots?

No I don't use 1and1 but this is not first time I've heard this.
There are plenty of other registrars out there. Try Namecheap.com, Mydomain.com, Domainsite.com. Been using them for a year and no problems.

Yeah, 1and1 doesn't get a domain registered immediately. I've switched to GoDaddy and have had no problems.

1and1 is big in EU ... but I think they are a US or German company not really sure. Love the fact that they give out 2 free domains for hosting with them so I never really paid attention when registering the free domains

but now that I bought a domain from them well wasn't too impressed with the delay. It seems anythign and everything to do with the domain is on CRON JOBS.

I just changed the name servers to point to hostgator and for the past 50 mins it keeps saying UPDATING as a status ... what a crap seriously ... 2008 and they are using time cron jobs to handle domain registration and domain management.

I guess hosting companies shouldn't bother with domain registration or rather I as a buyer shouldnt' bother with them. However, being able to buy everything you need for a site from one company under one account is so much easier.

I wish HostGator would also register domains

Godaddy is confusing ... EVERY DAY they change something or the other on their site! How do ppl keep up with them? I really can't. Everytime they make a change they dont' only change the design but also the stupid urls and firefox has a hard time keeping up with that and administering the ID and Pwd :S

Anywho ... I thought Godaddy has some kind of credit systems to do evertying you need to do with the domain ...

Can you change dns and do they charge for private registration?

GoDaddy is fine. Only that they do charge for private registration and I still haven't got a clue to get the freebies from them.

1and1.com not registered domains instantly and this is a big problem. I registered domain names from them but they aren't important for me so registered from 1and1.com.

Same here, I have some domain names registered with 1and1 but I already switched most of them to godaddy... and I now only registered my domains with godaddy.

1and1 is a good hosting company for beginners... that's all.

I'm not looking forward to attempting to transfer the few I have there as I herd it is quite difficult at 1&1.

I am about to write my oopinion and it is negative. It is not negative because I own www.1coms.com but rather for the lack of service at One and None!

These 'pirates' make it very hard for you not to renew your domain. You have to request the cancellation of the domain and it needs 14 days to be put in place. I mean, please, how hard is it for them to set the auto renewal on a domain to 'off' it needs 14 days?

    Rubbish...
