tips on finding an internet marketing job

I am 2 years out of college and I work in a completely unrelated field. I was wondering what is the best way to find an internet marketing job. Most of the jobs want people with more experience than I have. There has to be an entry level job somewhere.

Start to take freelance work at first. Once you have done work for other people (you might have to start at offering free trials), you will gain credibility and develop a portfolio you can use to get you more work or get hired.

Do you have a list of sites that list freelance work? I am starting from ground zero here. I am pretty smart though so I will catch on quickly.

Also, how about getting jobs at like Yahoo or Google in their search marketing areas. What do you need to know to get hired?

why don't you try freelancing sites. there are lots of work available there. some sites even pay you weekly. if you are interested in the details, you can pm me as i am still not allowed to post links here being quite new in DP. thanks.

Well if your looking to get into freelancing you need to offer a skill. Graphic Design, coding, SEO etc. I suggest to heavily read up on that, practice it for a year or so then start freelancing in that profession.

assuming you know nothing about graphics...some of the jobs related to internet marketing are writing/submitting articles, link building and forum posting. most of them are grunt work...so patience is your investment.

    goodluck

agree affiliate networks will happily take people with enthusiasm, understanding of the internet but no hard core skills as they will train you. if i were you I would drop your CV but more importantly a cover note which expresses your enthusiasm to work in the sector and then send to the affiliate networks.

there are loads of jobs out there, just search for 'new media jobs' and start reading some of the under £20k (presume you are from the UK) salary job specs and take a look at what they are looking for

What sort of position are you looking for? "Internet Marketing" is a broad field. What skills do you have? Did you major in business or marketing in school? Are you just looking for a gig or are you looking to make a career out of it?

I don't know of many entry level positions that are specific to marketing online. Marketing Assistant maybe. You might want to try the Marketing & Promotion jobs section on Craigslist in your city. Just make sure they're jobs and not work at home opps.

I want to make a career out of it. I went to a liberal arts school and I have a public health background. The only business class I have is accounting. I have studied some marketing and advertising on my own though.

Actually, I have a great idea I thought of after listening to a lecture. I guess I am going to have to teach myself everything. I just need to find a place to work in the industry I am interested in. Then, work on my online advertising business a side thing.

Start reading on PPC/SEM. All you need to do is figure out Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MSN adCenter. After that you'll be able to get a decent job with pretty good pay. It gets rather boring after 1 year though. Good luck.

your best bet is to go to freelancing websites but if you do a simple search for "Online Jobs" or anything related I would stay away from those. Its going to be filled with useless info you don't want and affiliate offers.

How do you stay interested if it gets boring after a year?
