Shawn Hogan (DigitalPoint owner) has told about the bad wordpress back end and we at Canober also developed our own blogging system. Wordpress has a lot of support and themes, but you'll find out what happens when you get a lot of visitors at once.
WordPress has been VERY good for me. My permalink structure has got me at page 1 for my targetted keyword in less than 2 weeks. I receive loads of traffic (today, there were 500+ people on the website at ONE time), but it didn't crash, nothing. Brilliant system according to me.
Wordpress has been an absolute godsend to me for SEO. Most of my traffic comes organically from Google and I'd have to give most of the credit to Wordpress' SEO friendliness and for its easy-to-work permalink structure.
I am using wordpress for my all six sites and it's working amazingly very fine. It has all plugins which i want to be in my site. I mostly like pinging service to search engines about new posts.

You've posted up an article from 2006 and Wordpress has moved on a lot from then. Seriously, Wordpress is considered the best free CMS out there. It's very well written and adaptable to all sorts of needs.
