I wanted to make this post a long time back but finally made it. This Post is for those who are involved in website selling/buying business and are genuine business people (unlike site flippers who have killed many potential sites). I was wondering just like people lease big domains (like escrow.com has been leased to 3rd party service which uses the domain to offer its escrowing service), why not people starts lending their websites or selling half ownership of it ? The logic of such business model is based on Risk Sharing. You may like to read my blog post where i have tried to explain this in more detail. Its not a new concept but may be people should start thinking about it seriously. Since most of the sites on web marketplaces like SP are not of high quality and both the buyer and seller want to minimize the risk, so why not share the risk ? Comments and thoughts are welcomed. I know there will be potential issues with it.
ISn't this similar to like what some free hosting companies such as bravenet do they offer you part of their website so your domain bcomes yourdomain.bravenet.com It's a good idea and I've thought about similar things in the past but my end conclusion was i don't think it would be worth much unless you had something extra to offer for example in sites like facebook where you have your own page (profile) if their was a concept where the advertisement space on my page was mine then i think it myt pull off.
actually we can't even call this an idea as I know this has been done on smaller scale, what I was suggesting was this to be done on bigger scale and may be someone providing the platform for it.
I think if you were to go into business like that, it would be hard to tell exactly what percentage you and your partner own. So people are drawn away from this idea just because of the risk of losing your site
well, i engage such services before from one company and i was scammed by it.. it's not a good business plan..
Isn't that basically leasing? I mean people do lease out their domains and have been doing it for some time now. Its basically the saem thing.
You may suffer from a lot of issue if you don't make proper agreement with the partner. I won't lease other people domain because there are lot of issue may arise from there such as -my domain partner sell the site -my domain broken the agreement rule As you know this is online world, not worth the money if you plan to sue your partner
This is where you have to bring layers IN and sit down properly for weeks to come up with best possible solution. This model is not for those sleazy made for adsense site but genuine sites making high 5 figures per month with huge traffic. The Buyer can be an advertising company or some one with good relations with such companies. This model is only for serious people only Really ? what had went wrong ? I am interested to know. Yes, exactly Yes, you need to think of all the possible issues. This is more then website leading/sharing but more of a business sharing and partnership forming. But if you need 50k urgently and don't want to sell your baby site, then this may be the best route to go..
i thought of an idea similar to this. Basically you make an affiliate shop and then get someone to advertise it for you and whatever it makes they take say 35% and you do no work just set it up. They dont lose anything and you can just sell domains if it doesnt grow.
