Well yes blog commenting is not a cake walk. You have to read the entire post and then make a valid comment. Comments like thank you, great job or great post etc. are not acceptable, especially if you are targeting industry specialists.

I see blog posting to do more with marketing, giving it more brand visibility and recognition. Getting links is just a by product (whether do follow or no follow hardly matters for me). I might be viewing it from a completely different perspective so we might disagree.

Quality work is always time consuming, and Google loves quality work. If you do bulk directory submission the result is 2% and if you submit into 10 quality social sites result is 3%, time period is same for both.

See, finding dofollow blog is not that much tough, just install nofollow plugin available for firefox, it will show you dofollow and nofollow. You can search such blog list online and it is easily available.

Most of the SEO work is annoying but it just have to be done if you want to get in the top 3, right?
Having a nice list with DoFollow blogs that approve comments will speed up the whole process.

Blog commenting is a waste of time.. 90% of blogs have a "nofollow" tag - meaning that the link you posted on the comment won't count as a backlink... It probably send some traffic to your site but that's about it..

Do follow blog commenting is always a double edged sword. You can spend tonnes without tangible results or you can find blogs with long-standing comments and make huge SERP leaps with a relatively small budget,

Getting backlinks from blog comments is very useful if you spend the time and do the research to find top blogs in your niche. If you leave useful, intelligent comments that add substantially to the dialogue you will be building brand awareness for your business and it will bring traffic to your site. As you become known at that blog you will gain respect and that will reflect on your business brand and your site. Backlinks tend to be from the individual post page and, even for top blogs, these do not really have high PR. So you have to look at it as brand awareness building.

Also I have a theory that a PR1 backlink from an on content blog comment or page is of more value to you than a PR3 from a completely unrelated page. The first is natural organic link voting while the latter can be seen as just commercial PR link building.
