Number 4 in Yahoo, but number 70+ in Google????

My main website at the moment, Vancouver Computers, ranks number 4 in Yahoo for the search term "Vancouver Computers" but the rank in Google is way worse, 70+. I find this rather annoying, what should I do? "Vancouver computer/s" is my main keyword and I am not getting enough searches. Is there something I can do about this?
    -Thanks

    Here are the links:
Yahoo, the top 3 links are 2 from craigslist and one from another Vancouver (WA) I am in Vancouver (BC) so for all practical purposes I am number one: http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...p=vancouver+computer&y=Search&fr=sfp&ei=UTF-8

Google, the top search is a website that has not been updated in years that has the same PR rank as mine: http://www.google.ca/search?q=vanco...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

It has to do with the algorithms. You can't change that, but you can change your keyword position through SEO.

There is two things that might contribute to this:

    - Yahoo cares more about domainnames than Google

    - Google cares more about domainage than Yahoo

Google cares about quality related links back to your site. Yahoo is more about the raw number of links. Try to get more related links back to your site from other businesses in Vancouver and from other computer related sites.

SEO Rank doesn't really mean anything. Not that accurate.

Google is very questionable. They do a good job at keeping their algorithm secret.

Only thing I can say for certain is ther more non-paid backlinks on higher PR sites, the better.

The only reason is the different algo these sites use to judge a website..I will say you should focus more on google as it has the largest market share.

I agree. I think Google gives more importance to content and strong non-paid links to your site. Where as Yahoo gives preference to your domain and other on-page factors. So, you should do both on-page and off-page SEO for better performance and ranking in all the search engines. Try to get some important links by submitting your site to directories, do some social bookamrking and tell your partners to put your link. that will definitely help you.

My experience - we first showed up high in Yahoo, then we showed up high in google while yahoo dropped. Google ranking stayed in the same place since.

Can you have a look at thees rankings in this yahoo search: http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...=vancouver+computers&y=Search&fr=sfp&ei=UTF-8

The top result has PR 0 from Google. It has 4 pages and only 6 backlinks.

My website has PR 2, about 300 backlinks including a few very good ones and about 50 pages. How come they rank higher than my website? Mine is number 4.

Also they are about Vancouver (WA), a tiny town. My website is about Vancouver (BC) with about 3 million people in its metropolitan area.

    What gives?

    Thanks guys,
    -Josh

It's the same for my site. It is relatively new and it has a big goals. Its 3 months old and it ranks Nr3 in yahoo for betting forum. The domain name is exactly the same - betting-forum.
I guess yahoo cares more about domain names. Their algo gives advantage to domains that have the keywords. Or to the domains that exactly match the keyword. For me this is normal because of course microsoft will awlways be 1st when you write the word.

What do you think is a better link?
    Example
    or
    www.example.com

For MSN my site is ranked #1 on page one for cat advice, but in Google it's not even in the first 10 pages! If only Google was like MSN :)

Do you think backlinking in forums has any profit for your site?
This is the easiest method. So far I backlink mainly in forums.
