Google are putting more effort and money to study how to recognize the links selling, and trying to beat such things happen. In this way, google will keep its page rank patent useful.

it will not be easy. maybe they will get to recognize some of the most obvious occurrences but link building companies will allways find ways around it.

only way google will beat link selling, if they do a similar thing them selves, yes i know ad word is some kind of link selling but that is based on bidding,

but say for example, they make a set price say $30 for 200 searches in given choice of keywords, then they would dominate this field by a long shot!

Google are not against link selling at all. They just don't think it should affect SERPs.
People think they are trying to stamp out link selling and that they are hypocrites, but they are not.

i had a inernet conferece meeting last week, and i had a chat with google adword team, they told me they are studying the method to detect the link selling.

at the same time, i got the news that google alsways change the rank theories.

I dont see how that will happend. I mean, how can they tell if I contact a webmaster by email and ask for a link within the text of a page? Or better yet, how can they tell if I ask a blogger to include my link in his next post?

Of cource, its easy to spot the obvious ones with "Sponsored Links" written over them :p

Google surely is trying hard to stop people from buying and selling links. Google is penalizing sites who do such thing. But I am not sure if Google can make a perfect system for detecting such thing.

They can only try but they will not be able to spot a difference between a paid link and popular site's link..

Google keeps on penalizing websites that participate in links buying/selling. however you still can sell text links simply by using the 'nofollow' tag..

Google is not against selling or buying links they just don't want webmasters to use instep to dominate the SERP's ;)

i think it would have to be a manual process rather than an algorithm. and if it's done manually, then it would cost a lot of man hours. seems an expensive venture.

I don't think they will ever successfully win that war. It is like US vs Vietnam or Iraq.

Google may find ways to spot the obvious paid links, but they won't ever be able to spot all paid links. As Google cracks down more on paid links, the buyers and sellers will just find ways to make the links look more natural. Then Google will give up on that war and find something else to hate on.

I agree with vansterdam. It's a very good example too :)
As a word of advice - do not sell links via Text Link Ads, Google will penalize your site.
