I have a site originally have PR6 for almost 6months and i can see the growth of the community is increasing. traffic from google search is always the dominant overall.

however, the scenario totally changed over the few months back, google no longer sent any traffic to my site. upon analysis, i found massive of backlink (spam link to be precise) to some of the user submitted spam pages. there are 5000+ backlinks from spamsite, with duplicated content etc. I believe I've been sabotaged by my competitor and google must think i use black hat seo to increase backlink :(.

do you think this is possible? any1 has similar experience before? how do I undo the damage?

Is your site a forum or blog related, you should watch out and moderate carefully your site since they can post links. Clean up everything first, they resubmit a clean sitemap.

this is interesting, can you confirm to us that you mean that your problem is with backlinks to your site, not from links on your site?

if it is true, then it will be a good blackhat tool to use against competitors

We can't control incoming links and Google knows it. I think your PR is downgraded due to other problems. Did you sold or exchange any links?

I think a site can not get penalized for getting too many backlinks in short period of time, as if google used to penalize sites for getting too many backlinks [quickly], then people will start to do all this for their competitors in order to get them penalized. The worst that can happen is that google will ignore such links, that is, you will get no credit for those links.

problem is i don't know who did it cause there are 3 thousands of links back to 2 pages in my site :( ... I thought of removing those 2 pages but ironically, yahoo think that 2 page is good page :p and start sending traffic...

    nonoymarv:
i determined it from google webmaster tools, under pages with external links, i can see those spam backlink..

    canam ,tendulkar2:
i was just suspect.. i did sell link, but that is after PR downgrade.

is there any chance to undo the damage?

it would be awful if this could really happen but i doubt it was the spam links. this would start a world wide web war where everybody will attempt spamming their competitors into oblivion. the web would be a mess. must be the sold links.

I know some people that are already doing this to other people's sites to see if it will cause problems, I told them what they are doing is mean but they don't care, they are experimenting to see what google will do

and be very very careful, because if you request a reconsideration, that means that a google employee has to manually review your site and all the links, so if they see that your backlinks are all low quality like forum links and dofollow blog comments, you might be doing yourself more harm than good in drawing google's attention to your site

This is exactly right, you theoretically cannot be punished just for your backlinks - otherwise you would see a lot more blackhat techniques employed by webmasters attempting to destroy their competition.

Yeah, but in the real live it is truth. Google will punish you if you suddenly have many spam backlinks.

I would say they are punishing the unnatural linking process (lots of links acquired very fast) rather than the QUALITY of the link itself

    send them this :)

On a serious note...I really didn't think they penalised from inbound links because anyone can hurt another site like you said.

Google wont penalize your own website because of other spam websites linking to your website, am sure it's some thing else you have done wrong!

Otherwise every one will create a new spam network and link it to their competitors websites ;)

The idea that google will never react to something that someone else has done that effects your site, is nonsense.
Google exists to provide relevant results for searchers - if something has happened to your site that seems to make it less relevant, then Google will make the appropriate adjustment in it's results.
Google isn't in the search engine business to reward or punish webmasters for good or bad behaviour - it serves up results to searchers, that and only that is it's raison d'etre.
