Looking for some input on this web page save!

We had a client recently call and ask one of our support people if we could FTP their web site if they dropped off a CD. They said that would be no problem. Apparently the person had build the entire site in Illustrator. No links, not HTML, nothing... Just static pages of artwork, copy and images in Illustrator documents.

To try to save this for them, I took the Illustrator docs, resaved them as Adobe Illustrator PDF, then opened the PDF's up, resized to 125%, then took a screen shot of the PDF. From there, imported the PNG screen shot to Photoshop and resized them down the time by a few pixes, then saved them as gif's.

I took each new IMAGE of her original 8.5 X 11 Illustrator docs and then placed them in a web page, created image maps for links, and added alt tags and metas since the SE's are gonna hate this site which is truly devoid of any readable content/text copy.

Thoughts on the look and feel? Again, I did not design it, just saved it and put it into a form that could at least be readable by a web browser.

She still did not really get it after I explained that Illustrator docs are not web pages. She was still under the impression that FTP was gonna fix her problems...

Anyway, I should have charged for this, but did it gratis under the precept that I would see 3 more customers this week from her, and that I would charge her to do this in the future.

Anyway, I welcome thoughts, comments. Thanks!

Looks pretty amazing what you were able to do with what you had to work with.

As you already mentioned, their search engine rankings are going to hurt without main body text. Hopefully they get their visitors from print and word of mouth.

    Thank you
Well I did at ALT tags for the images that say things like, "Westshire Ranch", or "Club House Tour", basically using their keywords from the site.

And I added a meta for the kw and the description for each page which should hopefully help it from looking completely devoid of any content.

    Thank you.

    Thanks

I'd have to agree, but that is what they wanted.

Why can't you just copy the text from illustrator and then code it into the website?

Because that would be completely starting over. Neither the designer nor their client wanted to pay me to do things right.

This was their quickest easiest way out of this mess they created.

the logo is good . The website looks a bit old styled to me , as it does not have much web graphics in the nav bar and other sections.5/10

Just out of curiosity, did you read the original post? I did not design the layout. I'm not asking for input on the layout itself, or the design elements. I'm asking for input on how I took what I was given and made it work for them.

    ;)

Of course , I did. After reading your post, what I thought was you are in a situation to makeup other people's work and looking for other people's opinion/suggestion about how you can improve the design.
Now, after reading your last post I am assuming that I did not understand what you actually said. Right?

No, not looking for any opinions on the design or changing it. Just what I did to accommodate for the ignorance of both the client and their designer.

    Thanks!
