Hi, Just a few questions on signature links. 1. Why do some experienced members of this site with hundreds of posts have no signature links ? 2. As most forum members do promote their sites in signatures, if you have many sites, is it a good practice to rotate the links placed in your signature, or have two or three and stick to them ? 3. What would you suggest would be the optimum number of links to have in your signature ? and 4. Does it benefit more if your sig links are coloured and bold etc instead of just plain ? Thanks.
1) there choice and may comfortable 2) well if those sign links are sold with position they wont rotate 3) as much as possible ok 5 4) yes
Thanks for your input.. I'll use them to promote my own sites for the moment, but does changing the links in your signature, change all the links in all your previous signatures aswell, meaning links to your previously promoted sites would disappear and change to the new ones.... probably upsetting google. Or do the old ones stay the same (unless sold ) and only new posts show changes. Sorry if its a dumb question.
1. Good question - I would say that some marketers, like a poker player, don't want to give away their hand. Some people feel they've got a good idea for a site without a lot of competition and don't want to give that idea away for fear other people will jump into their niche and become competitors. You can learn a lot by checking out a good seo's site. The links in my signature are for associates of mine I keep my personal sites separate. 2. Depends on what you want to promote. If you change your signature you lose those links. I think it's best to stick with ones for awhile but you can always switch them if your priorities change. 3. I agree with chandan123 - As many links as you can fit.
1. Why do some experienced members of this site with hundreds of posts have no signature links ? Some members do not wish to let others know which sites they actually own. Some do that because they are crooks or master debaters., others do it because they do not want to take the chance of Google penalties through sig links (whether or not that actually happens). Some do not want sigs simply because they feel they are spammy... there are likely many other reasons, some good, some bad. 2. As most forum members do promote their sites in signatures, if you have many sites, is it a good practice to rotate the links placed in your signature, or have two or three and stick to them ? Long term sigs can hold greater power, so IMHO, no...keep one site there. At least keep one main site there and rotate the other three, or two, or whatever... 3. What would you suggest would be the optimum number of links to have in your signature ? Four Lines! $ lines has been the norm since the days of Usenet and seems to simply be "good form". With the netequette of four lines, it stands to reason one link per line. (I wish DP would follow that) 4. Does it benefit more if your sig links are coloured and bold etc instead of just plain ? Yes, at least a link that stands out will tend to catch the eye of a PERSON reading it. Google supposedly can also pull out key text for prefferences....but I can't really back that up.
Qryztufre explained well. Adding to it.... 2. Rotating Anchor text every month will give better results. (worked for me at least). you can do it on trial basis and find the results and start using it.
Cheers you guys. This forum's great. I can tell I'm going to learn a lot here in the future. Anyway, thanks again and there's my 10, so here comes my sig.
if you have a lot of sites you should pick the 4 you want to advertise and than stick with them so their rankings will go up
Unfortunately, I don't seem to have much luck with signature advertising. I've experimented with different sites, and changed the words around, and I still haven't had any success.
I have a few of my sites in my sig and I feel like it helps to have them there. Also I would pick a few and leave them there, I think it does take away backlinks from you if you remove it and your right google probably will not like it..
1. This is personal perfer 2. Up to you 3. The more, the better....lol 4. Just another type of optimization to get people attention
How long did you leave the keywords? Look at my sig... the bottom three all get the top three slots in SERP, mostly because of my 3K+ posts here. If your keywords are very competitive, then you may need to pick some that fit, yet are not so popular... you also must rely upon more then just sig links. Directory submissions, blog posts, links, article marketing... it's ALL or nothing. Getting the word out on a related site will also help. People here on DP are more inclined to click through a webmaster link then some auction link (or in my case, an occult site). My sig pulls in more human traffic from other occult forums... from the people on those sites some give additional links or even join my community. Quality, relevance, and userfriendly sites tend to fair far better then anything else. Now, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with your sites, I've not clicked into them... I'm just saying
I love signature advertising. It gives me motivation to make a lot of posts. But on the other hand, I can see why some marketers want to keep their winning sites secrets.
DP is one of the most active webmaster forums . Sig links help to page indexed, ranking. Have a think of the profile of one member is pr4 . Maybe some people don't want their site known by dp members, therefore they don't put links on their sig.
Going on previous experience with other forums I would say that those with no sig and lots of posts are pretty keen to keep their cards close to their chest!
