Ever paid someone else to run your PPC campaigns?

    Results?

    Recommendations?

I'm a manager, so I may be biased but I think that you have two options: Try to set up a succussdul campaign yourself or hire a manager.

The first will involve you doing research which can be time consuming. It also means you will make mistakes which will cost you money, how much will depend on how fast you learn.

The second (hiring a manager) will mean a quickly set up account that has been tweaked by someone who (generally) will have a lot of experience, so you don't lose money unecessarily. You also have someone to ask questions directly.

There are pros and cons to each and you should consider your situation before deciding wether a manager is for you. Do you have time do research yourself? Can you afford to waste money in the learning process?

    Good luck.

The main benefits to hiring someone else is that you save time and you will avoid costly mistakes. A good agency will sit with you and discuss what you are hoping to acheive from your site and the best way to acheive those goals.

Again, I'm also biased but people tend to make a lot of mistakes with PPC, I know I did when I started out. A good PPC Campaign manager will have daily experience in creating ads, monitoring ads and will have a plan to maximise your advertising return by improving the CTR.

My advice is enquire with a PPC manager and find out what they can do for you. If you've got the time and money to invest in making the mistakes for yourself, do it- you'll learn fast (particularly if it's your money).

Best of luck whichever route you go.

When interviewing a PPC manager, what are the best questions to ask? What kind of rate should you expect to pay for 8 to 15 hours of work a month managing a PPC campaign?

Here's Some questions you might be able to ask:

How long have you been doing PPC marketing?
What type of keywords will you use? Long Tail?
Can I see some of your past Adword ads that you made?

There is usually a campaign set up fee which would include X amount of time (30 - 60 - 90 days) and then a percentage per month. Usually 10%, but some go a bit lower or higher.

If it's someone from these forums, I start by asking how much other people are quoting and then try to work out something fair. It could be slightly above or below other quotes, but is generally very good compared to what I charge/ask for from companies.

I charge X dollars for the setup, with the the average set up fee about $275 USD. This goes up if I am consulting on landing pages. I also have a team of copywriters and web developers who can help me, but they provide me (and the thus you) with discount services.

After setup, I usually charge per hour if I will required to do a lot or per week if I am just ensuring things go smoothly. For 8-15 hours a month expect to pay $25USD per hour. (Only available to people who PM/email me from these forums, companies pay me significantly more)

I am happy to share figures of my past and present campaigns. I am also happy to give free basic advice (time-permitting).
