IM - is it over?

    Hi all

I have read on a few forums that making money online is definately dwindling. Well the IM niche. What are your thoughts on this, do you think it is getting a bit outdated?

I am currently looking for a new niche to get started in but I am really not sure where to start. I have hobbies but nothing I am overly passionate about (isnt that sad!) How did you all get into your niches, etc?

    Thanks

I have quite a few niches that I work in. My most sucessful is a hobby that I love, my newest is a test to see if the somewhat new niche can make me money.

    What is the IM nitch?

Just because you know what an acronym means, does not mean that everyone else does.

Ok, I thought you were talking about some kind of Instant Messenger (IM) program, such as yahoo messenger, AOL messenger, ICQ, MySpace messenger, or MSN messenger - all IM programs.

My nitch is hiking, camping, hunting, disaster preparedness, gardening, political discussion and video blogging.

I took all of those and wrapped them into a youtube channel and a forum, which is getting over 1.4 million page views a month and over 37,000 post a month.

My suggestion, what are you interested in that can be tied in with something else? Why does a site have to deal with just one or two topics? What do you like doing in real life and how can you make money off of that?

Lets say you like cars and car stereos, so why not start a site about both? As long as the topics support each other, the site will be better then one that just talks about cars.

    Hi Kev

Thanks for the info. There are a couple of things that I am interested in but like I say I am no expert in anything, but then I guess that is what research is all about. I think I really will need to have a sit down and have a little brainstorming session soon.

Buy the way congrats on what you have acheived that is some amount of hits you are getting,

Absolutely not! I think we have a LONG way to go (if ever) before we see it crash and burn. In fact, the IM niche may be more popular than ever if you target complete newbies because of the economy crisis. People are going to be looking for alternative ways to make money.

You will always be able to find a niche.

I'm in pet care, survival, IM, job skills, stress and countless affiliate products.

    You can always make it!

Hi Eljay, You read any magazines of interest? You watch any TV programs of interest? Watch for advertisers when engaged in projects of interest. You will be surprised what niches are selling by seeing whats advertised.

When looking for a new niche, I would suggest finding one that you actually enjoy and can be passionate about. You will find it harder and more time consuming trying to promote something you really do not enjoy. Internet Marketing is not going anywhere, since 2003 their has been nothing but an increase in the amount of users on the net as well as the amount of money companies are spending to advertise. With these numbers climbing each year, that is a sure sign that IM is not going anywhere anytime soon.

internet marketing itself is far from over...

But, yeah, you can say the internet marketing niche is a little saturated

It's hard to teach people how to make money online when you don't know how to yourself.

I don't think any of this stuff is over or saturated. You just need to know what triggers the user. When things get harder, you need to be more creative. I personally think the most seasoned marketer can be had if the right deal comes along.

The word saturated is being overused now. Get creative.

When people say the IM niche is dying, I think what they mean is that many people are sick of buying programs or products that never really work. So the number of people condemning the IM niche is increasing....

This all produces a negative effect down the line...

Will this spell the end of the so called gurus? Likely.

I think it is not saturated yet. My niche is health, children, money, photography and business. Think harder.

    Hiya

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am thinking it is maybe the whole 'guru' thing that people are giving up on, like Tuzic said the internet just keeps gettig better so you would think that money is still to be made. I think I need to brain strom a little and really research what my next niche is going to be. There are many things that interest me so maybe I just have to look at all them and then take it from there.

i'm not agree with you, because if we can really optimize and do the optimum level of any kind of niche we want, we can get better score. :)
