Just wondering if anyone here knows for how long can I hold on to a dispute claim? Pay Pal has given a deadline to file the case with Pay Pal if I do not hear from the seller. But what if the seller tells me that it will take him one or two months to complete the job? Will Pay Pal allow me to hold the case until the seller completes?
While I appreciate your time in posting on my Pay Pal question thread, I think your comments is out of sync with what I am asking. Comments like "Pay Pal sucks" does not make sense in this thread.
As far as I understand, Paypal's dispute datelines still stands for all kinds of transaction and from the seller must have the product/service before he could sell it. You will probably just need to escalate the dispute to Paypal and get your money back. By waiting for the one or two months may be a tactic to get you away from the dispute and escalation datelines.
I have been into disuptes as well and it doesnt take time. The problems with mine is that I have done the services but after doing it the buyer did placed some disputes... It deosnt take time actually and if your a buyer your money will be returned to you.
The problem is I am more or less inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and the one or two months. I do know that by then my escalation would have expired. Was worried can I escalate the issue again after the previous escalation expired if the transactions does not go through as promised?
Once you open a dispute, you need to escalate it within 20 days of opening it otherwise the dispute would be deemed settled and closed and you cannot open another one.
a scammer knows that very well that after 90 days paypal dont allow to setup a dispute.... so they normally ask for more time.... so the best thing you can do is bring your money back and ask him/her to finish the work first and show you a demo... and if you satisfied then you will send him/her the money... but dont let him/her keep your money for long time or else you will lost it and not get what you paid for.... so the best way to deal is ask them to complete the job and show you a demo and they get paid.... and if they dont agree then tell them to drive through... i use to do customized programs 2 years ago and when i am done, i send a demo copy to the buyer and when they are satisfied with my work then they decide to pay or else they dont pay... and if i do business like this way then i dont have to worry for time as i can take as much time i need... so i will really suggest you to ask for refund and if they refuse to refund then setup a dispute and tell them to get the job done no matter how much time it take.. they will get paid if they can show you a demo... or else you know what to do....
Yeah, but if he doesnt have a dispute, how can he escalate it? If he doesnt escalate it it will close after 20 days!
If I do not have a dispute, why would I open a dispute claim with Pay Pal for? I guess there are better things to do. What I was asking was how long can we hold on to the dispute claims, the question of which Eddy had helped answered. Just for the knowledge of all members, a summary as I gathered. A dispute claim can be open up to 20 days, within the period, you will need to escalate the claim to Pay Pal if the dispute is not settled. After twenty days, the dispute claim automatically expired and you cannot open the same dispute again. Hope Eddy or any other member can correct me on this if I had misunderstood on anything. Thanks
The way I see is that the seller misrepresented himself because he should have told you that it would have taken 1 or 2 months to complete the job rather then to make you think that it would be completed in a reasonable timeframe. Yes, you are correct about the dispute/escalation time frame. I believe it works this way because customers who are happy usually do not raise dispute and if they do and get their resolution, they may not bother to close the thread. 20 days is really a very long time and everything would and should have been settled by that time, counting the fact that you can only raise a dispute after 7 days of the date of payment so that is 27 days for the seller to complete the sale.
yes the seller sure misrepresented himself... or the seller might be planning to scam wisdomtool.... since he/she taking lots of time to complete the project... i have done soo many custom orders in the past and i never ask the buyer to pay me first... why would i ask for the money when i haven't even completed the project... i think people who want the money first before delivering the project are suspecious... sometime it can go good, and sometime it can go bad... you never know where you will end up... i know many seller dont want to waste there time over bogus order... but still by my point of view i think its ok to do the project without having to take the money first since its the only time they will waste.... beside i never have lost any money as a seller when taking custom software orders... so i think wisdomtool should ask for refund and if the seller refuse to give a refund then he should start a disupte... and ask the seller to complete the project first since its going to take 2 months.. and after 2 months he cant start a dispute if the seller refuse to give him the project....
I do month long projects myself and for someone I have not dealt with, I do ask for a small deposit but never the whole lump sum unless I can fulfill it within 24 hours.
a small amount is ok... to be sure its not a bogus order but asking for full payment or half is something suspecious..... and i think wisdom should really ask for refund or start a dispute since its going to take 2 months... so before its tooo late, he need to bring back his money and send a small amount....
