Hi All, I definitely do know the importance of SEF URLs as such I have actually converted my Dynamic URLs into static for the obvious reasons of SEO. However, now I find myself on a cross-roads. So the question is ... would this impact my serps negatively? I know when you change your title tags it affects your serps ... but would converting dynamic urls to static urls would impact negatively?? Please share your experience and wisdom! Thanks in advance MD
Definitely yes! Because words in urls are considered as keywords also. Best result -> URL=TITLE=Meta keyword + description.
You may experience a brief drop in rankings after converting urls to SEF, but eventually your rankings should be higher than before. The search engines are smart enough to tell for sure when a site is using url rewriting. So they cannot penalize for this. Since it helps users too, the search engines shouldn't even care, despite Google's warning.
So this is for certain then? I mean I do know that I would see a dip in the SERPs when this gets implemented but the overall impact would be positive in the long run. Do you know how long the overall process is? Also, I have tried the "xml-sitemaps" standalone product that is quite literally put crap... waste of hours upon hours. Do you recommend any good ones. I use VBSeo Sitemap for one of my vbforum sites and I LOOOOVE it! Everynight it creates a sitemap and submits to the SE's and pings 'em. Is there anything like that for a NON VBforum sites? Like a PHP version?
You'd see a dip initially, until G eventually picked up on the entire transition. Additionally, you have to consider the old deeplinks that you might lose if you switch link structure, so you'll need to redirect the old to the new.
Well I have the mod rewrite in my htaccess ... That should take care of it! Anything else I need to do?
You might also want to try to get some more backlinks to your important pages that now have new urls.
