226 Nays to 207 Ayes Can I get an Amen or what ladies!?! Time to keep it real and live the responsible way.
It's such a touchy situation, I am against a bailout, especially in our current government deficit situation. I just hope the economy/dow doesn't totally falter now as well. I'm scared to see how much I've lost so far today
Is that exactly what they were voting on? I came in the middle of it and CNN is just showing they are voting on "Amendment with an Amendment". Whatever that means.... I did catch the first part where they did an oral vote first and they stated the Ayes have it before going to an actual electronic vote and the Nays actually won. Was kinda funny to me....
I hear ya brother, sorry to hear about the losses. It takes a man of principle to be for something despite the damage it will allow. Fortunately for myself, I don't have much to lose because I'm so young. I would think things are about to get worse, and I hope they don't get so bad - but I'm optimistic that we'll return soon and people will learn from all this.
holy shit, it feels like we are entering the abyss The stock markets are / will crash http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7641733.stm
Thats not good sign! market mean google, yahoo, GM, your bank, etc.. most people work and earn money from that "market" and then happy to see it crash!
I'm dancing! The crisis is a problem of too much debt. $700B in new debt isn't going to fix the problem - it would cause an instantaneous spike in price inflation for the benefit of a few banks. This is one of the biggest victories for the common person in recent memory. Its not going to fix the coming economic collapse, but the "bailout" plan wasn't going to do that either.
Scary times but I was opposed to this bailout. So I am happy it did not pass and apprehensive about what this means for our economy. edit: I see GRIM has 4 of the 5 votes for "There's no good news here, but atleast we stuck by principles" in the poll. If he votes like that in Nov. Ron Paul has chance. ;0
lol was waiting for someone to catch that. DP stalled on me. I'm watching the Republicans take on this. While I support their stand on the bailout, not going with it. I am disgusted at their excuse 'Palosi's speech' made them change their votes. WTF that's like saying I didn't go to work because someone was mean to me. A 'speech' does not change the language of the bill.
This is not a victory for anyone, but the Republicans are acting like they won something. The text of the bill before you is the only thing that should matter when voting. The political crassness is astounding. I thought this quote summed it up: "We're all worried about losing our jobs," Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., declared in an impassioned speech in support of the bill before the vote. "Most of us say, 'I want this thing to pass, but I want you to vote for it—not me.' "
Totally agree. Thanks for the quote as well, I had that feeling before even reading it. It appeared most wanted it to pass, but did not want it on their 'record'
Yeah I'm for the bailout but with serious restrictions and overhaul. I can agree with a lot of the Republicans and... yeah I'll say it.... I'm GLAD the Republicans stood up made us put a lot more restrictions on it. The Dems did their part too and pushed for more giveback to the people even though some of it was misguided (i.e. the Acorn thing). But you should have seen me yelling at my TV when the republicans were on there blaming Pelosi for them not voting. I mean are you serious?? Do you think the American people are stupid?? (don't answer that I already know they do). Either you believe the bill was important enough to vote yes for it or not. Blaming Pelosi is ADMITTING you didn't vote for it for POLITICAL reasons. Nov 4th can't get here fast enough.... Change.
I agree. I was watching that as well during lunch and all I heard out of these politicians (both Democratic and Republican) mouths were BLAME, BLAME, BLAME, BLAME. Always trying to blame someone else.... I don't think the bailout was the answer really, but they do need to find some sort of solution instead of going home (for ANY holiday)....
The sad thing is that you know they will do some "politically motivated" adjustments and pass it this week or next. I would say let the market work out its own problems. Let the gamblers take their loses and maybe learn "when to fold 'em" All we need to do is keep on bailing out people instead of letting them learn from their mistakes. Keep this up and the whole country will end up like parts of California with their extremely spoiled little kiddies crying about the wrong shade of red on their newest Porsche.
Has anyone found a vote breakdown of this yet? Would be interesting to see a list of who voted what....
market is down 720 pts. i do not know if this is bad or is it good. it does not look like a huge crash maybe only big
I am less worried about a stock market crash - though with our son's college fund, this is an obvious worry - as with 1929, I am worried about the calamitous shift in perceptions influencing demand patterns, and the sludging up of the economy generally. Not a stock market crash, but an general economic crash, and though we speak blithely about the "curative" effect of no action/free-market action, the Depression is close enough in cultural memory, at least to me, that this isn't a drill. Less concerned with Gucci handbags, and more, with milk and eggs.
Not the names, but the breakdown by party: "The vote against the measure was 228 to 205, with 133 Republicans joining 95 Democrats in opposition. The bill was backed by 140 Democrats and 65 Republicans." from google news
