i got an email today from godaddy that i should put in real info for my domains, is that really necessary, do you have real info set into your account info?
If you dont and you had problems in the future of people stealing your domains it makes it hard for you to prove that you owned it. Plus, depending on the type of site that it is, some people will look up the owner to see who really owns the site, if you appear secretive and shady it can make them nervous as they wonder why you are doing that. I have my full name, address, mobile, email addy in place on all my domains.
One way of not revealing your info on the WHOIS would be to buy a privacy protection package with your domain name. Some registrars charge while others give the privacy protection for free. You may want to check with your registrar.
like i said it's godaddy i know about the protection but it costs and i don't have any money online at the moment, i was just wondering what can be the consequences of false info, and how many people uses real info, cause in the email i received stated that i can lose my domain if i write false info.
having fake info is against the TOS. if you really want privacy, you should get the extra domains by proxy service. i personally have been using name.com which gives free privacy.
Name.com gives whois privacy. As in Godaddy case, I realise some of my domains are not accurate whois info. I aslo got the email and they will most probably conduct a random checkup. Just pray your not choosen
Best bet is to play by Godaddy rules..I use my real info on my domain, I do occasionally get "domain" related spam but isn't that part of doing online business! Surprised that no one mentioned ICANN..here is a letter that I get from them
