if its a very competitive search term I doubt directory submissions will be enough. What's the keyword?

Directory submissions will do very little even with keywords with very little competition.

If you could tell us your keyword and Topic i would be able to give you some better advice targeted towards your site.

Well I was going to help you, but then I saw your lack of appreciation towards other people trying to help you.

You can't expect people to be able to help you without knowing anything at all about your keywords, industry or website. Marketing websites in competitive niches would be quite different depending on which niche you are targeting.

If directory submissions are the only strategy you know, you probably shouldn't have taken on marketing any competitive niche websites.

Search engine marketing as any other business does not have fixed strategies that you could follow. Strategies are built depending on the nature of business, competitive landscape, marketing objectives etc. Since its not ready made no one will be able to give to you off the shelf. You will have to give inputs Kal and then you could expect outputs from us.
