I am confused an SEO has warned me doing this and he has shown some examples too. Please read below and give me your valuable thoughts! I feel that i am just attempting a blunder mistake in my life, may be this is even more dangerous than I thought and I am bit afraid. but I need my new site to be up asap.. look at what i am doing (against seo rules) 1. Deleting an existing 25 page HTML site, replacing the same with a wordpress blog. 2. Adding old contents to blog as well as adding 500 new contents at same time (within 20 hours) Using default htaccess, not setting up redirection of old URL's to new one, Instead I am using a custom error page (404), which gathers information on "search query string" and tell theme that domain/page.html no more exists here. is this a right way to do so?? or shall I setup rules in htaccess file?
That is bad bad bad. Deleting all your pages and replacing it with 500 pages? What are you thinking. Take my advice, don't do it. Use <div> onmouseover redirects on the pages and redirect users to your new page. Slowly add content, maybe 25 at first, then 1 or 2 a day following.
The Christmas is near This is a hightime where i get sales and i cant wait to upload all my contents. Adding individual page redirection rules to htaccess didnt worked for me in past, so i decided to use custom error page 404 without any redirection: "It will not redirect to 404.php but it will keep the old URL string" for example: I not redirecting domain.com/anyoldpage.html to a domain.com/404.php but i am using 404 as static page, it will show as domain.com/anyoldpage.html, display the search query and tell visitor to go to domain.com that's it!
I feel for you. anyway add some pages every week and get good result. It came through inner links Boomb.
This is the most amazing question....you say you are going against SEO rules, and still you think that you will be safe Surely Not
At the very least I would setup a htaccess to redirect each page of the old page to the best/closest match on the new site. I would also not put all 500 pages up at once, but that will not necessarily cause you problems (at least not in my experience). Get hundreds of backlinks overnight would be a much higher chance of potentially given you problems that the 500 pages. Best of luck with it. Cheers
If your keywords are very compatetive you might go for christmas next year. Or maybe you can time the newbie-bonus well.
yes i agree with your thought. Dhouldn't do against seo. white hat and black hate method are part of seo. All search engines support white hat seo method only.
What is the SEO rule that you are going against. You are deleting one set of web pages and replacing it with another set. Google doesn't care if you add 1 page or 10,000 pages. They will index the page the same. Was the old site using Webmaster Tools? Or using XML Sitemap submission. If so, add the new one in it's place and you will be fine. If not, set it up and us it. As for the 25 pages, use 301 redirects to the new pages and forget about the 404. Most of the 25 pages will not have the traffic or PR to warrant the work needed to implement the 404.
