Anyone using HostGator?

I am looking to purchase a shared plan from HostGator.

I am looking at either the Hatchling or Baby plan, but I need some insight to the company itself before I make a purchase.

On their main website it says Baby plan is $7.95 a month with free setup. However, when I enter my domain and do the calculation totals, it says the plan is near $10 a month.

What is this false advertising? Should I look for another host that actually has the plans like they say they do on their main website?

If you add a coupon, the rates could even go upto $0.01 for 1st month.. Hostgator is good, but not the best..!

The $7.95/month is if you prepay for three years. If you don't prepay, it's around $9.95/month.

dWhite if you decide to go with HostGator use this code hgc25 and you will only pay a penny for the first month.

I have used alot of different Hosts from really expensive ones for huge bandwidth to HostGator. Host Gator is not the best but for the price they are not too bad either. Their customer support staff is always available through live chat, phone or email. Have had a couple of good support people and a couple of terrible ones. But overall for $9.95 a month it's not a bad deal.

I know webmasters whose accounts have been shut off without even an email warning. That's bad for business. Their support is average. The service is okay.

The price is cheap. They don't seem to have very good internal controls in place.

    So I'd rate them average.

I use them for a couple of sites, but it's because they are cheap and in a different part of the country.

So it really depends on what you want to spend and what your project needs are.

1and1 is amazing for hosting, but shitty for domains. use 1and1 for hosting, and then dns your domains from NameCheap. best setup ever.

I use Hostgator and things have been 100% fine for me. Just don't do stupid shit, don't break the TOS, and don't misuse your CPU/memory usage allowances and you won't get touched

Exactly, follow the TOS and don't put sites on your account that should be on a VPS or Dedi.

Hostgator is fine for small sites, Seems that their servers are overloaded though.

I am using host gator right now as some one gave me a free account and its ok, but for the amount you pay for that baby plan, I suggest you don't go for it. There are better options out there.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hostgator are pretty reputable. There are loads of people using them. If you hover your mouse over the $7.95, you will clearly see that is when you pay for three years. Monthly, it is $9.95.

Give a try to Asmallorange. Not the cheapest, but excellent service, and they are always quick to respond to queries.

I've been with HostGator for several years, and their customer support has always been very good at resolving any issues I have encountered.
