PageRank Drops From 4 To 0

My website has dropped from PR 4 to 0. Earlier this week it was down from Sunday night until Tuesday afternoon. Is it possible this caused the drop? I have sold a few links/ads since the last update, but is that enough to drop to 0? Is there any way I can fix this? I am very concerned. Please let me know your thoughts, my website is my username.

Yes, it is enough for it to drop. Instead of removing the sold links, I'd prefer you get more higher PR linking back.

So if I get more backlinks it wont matter that I have sold links?

Google obviously must be mad at something with your site.

You didn't happen to buy a whole wack load of links, did you?

it doesnt matter how they know, they just do. yes if you sold links, they'll give you the fake toolbar penalty.

it doesn't mean you cant rank anymore, only that your site isnt an attractive proposition to link buyers anymore.

face it, you're selling something that doesn't belong to you, pagerank, what do you expect?

Yes, many of my friends faced same problem. In July 08 when Google updated PR they all got PR 3 for their blog and today all of them have PR 2 or 1. So all guess that in July Google has given PR in bulk not real and actual PR now it has given actual PR. There may be some other reasons also for dropping PR.

Looks like you've overdone it on the link selling (and linking to casinos) and got slapped down by google. Very easy to detect since you are keyword spamming and linking to the same sites with different targeted anchors.

They are not using gmail data for that. The bad publicity that would come if it was discovered they were doing this would be horrendous.

Its not hard to see which sites are selling links and which aren't. When you keyword spam to casino websites from an unrelated website it's blatant. I would imagine things like that flag sites up for human review, then they get their PR whacked.

If you have the same traffic what you had it's no problem if your pr dropped. I don't care about pr for a long time .

Check your site ranking, if it's as usual then it's not a prob. As you said, you sold some links that is the reason of dropped. I think, you gave some links to low PR sites. So if you ranking is as usual then don't worry.

Like I said, that's just my feeling. I'm not sure. But, they do access the gmail data to show relevant ads. I won't be surprised to know if they actually use it to determine the sites that are selling links.

Yups, i've seen many pages with high PR but with low alexa ranking, their monetization is by far more less than those with TOP alexa ranking..

    IMHO
Google PR is a score where does your site is known by others
Alexa ranking is a score about your visitor.. :D

"High PR with a very low alexa ranking is a crap..
TOP Alexa ranking with a low PR.. Hmm.. there is something about the site"

well if you site is about web design and then you have a bunch of out going links to sites that sell diamonds in your footer then its a no brainer !! other cases are harder

Only not easily detectable links are links well blended in the content of you site THUS relevant to the content ...
