Who rambles off subject more and avoids giving real answers. It's gotta be Obama. College students watching the debate are going to take shots when someone says hope or change. How long before everyone is totally hammered?

You should have made the "Who won" question a poll. The front end interface could have been patched into Diebold's vote recording/tallying web service.

Tuned in, but a last minute laugh: there was an ad taken out in the WSJ this morning, placed by the McCain campaign: Big, colorful, bold: "MCCAIN WINS DEBATE!"

This was this morning, before John McCain had even agreed to show up.

    Senator, c'mon. :D

Diane Sawyer had a great "20/20" special examining the personal crises, family struggles and defining events that have shaped the candidates before the debate .

OMG McCain's first statements are not very "presidential"... the guy needs to go back to college lol.

McCain will find the people responsible for the problems. (is he gonna Google them? )

    "The John" - Obama :D

So far, the most poignant, landed point, was Obama's direct retort to McCain's line: to McCain talking about the mothers he's talked to, who didn't want their son's lives to have been lost in vain, Obama said what I think is the right, courageous thing: No veteran dies in vain. He serves at the direction of the Commander in Chief, and it is to the Commander in Chief that the responsibility lies (sorry, on the fly, may not have been word for word, after "no soldier dies in vain"). I agree with him completely, and though it wasn't easy to say it, after McCain's relaying of the stories from several mothers he supposedly spoke to, it landed - all three audience sectors - Democrats, Republicans and Independents - rose dramatically in their favorable response. Through his discourse on Afghanistan, until this moment, on Iran, Obama has sustained a positive reaction. It was well done.

Obama is letting McCain talk too much. McCain seems to be knowledgeable about world issues, although his approach seem to be something out of the Regan era.

I am surprised that Foreign policy is the main topic of the debate. Obama is surprisingly knowledgeable about facts and figures, McCain seems to be more knowledgeable about past history.

The one thing that stands out is McCains rhetoric about being an agent of change, but he could only quote his record in the last 4 years not the last 35. 4 years ago, when Bush won a second term is when "McCain for President" was born.

Although this is McCains forte', probably his only one, Obama is holding his own. I can see where they differ, it's not in policy, it's in approach.

I think each debate will focus on different issues. This debate I think was more favorable towards McCain where as the next one will probably lean towards Obama. I think they both sounded better than Bush did.

I can agree with you there.

If you take the 'audience' reaction to mean anything that they have running, Obama is beating McCain in pretty much all questions with who he needs, INDEPENDENTS.

The VP debate will not be as well spoken.

I just heard this debate was suppose to be on foreign policy. The first few questions were on domestic issues.

I think Obama will do better in the domestic debate. Experience was a major factor in this debate and that same experience may be a liability in the domestic debate.

Did anyone notice 'I forget the question' McCain's voice got a bit shaky? Sounded like he was getting more than a bit emotional, and almost to the point of hard to control himself.

To the extent had he been in such a place like a private house hold he'd be swearing and yelling so to speak.

What network were you watching? I was watching MSNBC and didn't see the audience reaction thing. That's a CNN thing I think?
The debate seemed like a tie to me. Both were tough and neither really seemed to stumble.
