Google cannot see mod rewrites. This is done server side. So they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a real html file and a dynamic url that is rewritten to appear as html. So no they will not classify this as spam. For some sites it makes complete sense to use url rewriting.
it helps me evaluate whether a URL is worth clicking when i see a rewrite. i'm sure others think the same. so for me personally, i'm not giving up URL rewrites. interestingly, the URL to the official google webmaster central blog uses rewrites.
Well, don't get confused, they are just saying, that it is harder to recognize not necessary parameters when you use rewriting. For example: www. site .com/?page=tutorial&id=4343&session_id=342387421347 www. site .com/tutorial/4343/342387421347/ In the second example, they will harder decide that the last parameter (for example session_id or any other not so important) doesn't have any value on the content. So, there is no need for panic on this post.
Okay, Pelosi don't get your undies all bunched up. It isn't a "hoax" - it is a minor aspect of re-writing URLs and does not affect most people. I will say that Google is getting even more unbalanced in their definition of "spam" and I imagine it will eventually come back to haunt them in the future.
Who says google can not see rewrites? Simply, your competitor (or even you, accidentally) can leave some links on any page linking to your original URLs. From those ones, google will be able to browse them and get to know that they are the same URLs, hence consider the first ones as rewrites! This already happened to me a caused a problem that is still affecting my forum in a very bad way.
can we get an authority SEO person to answer this? quite important news.....can someone verify this pls?
like Frisby said it about the following thing Google is talking about: Google is NOT talking about: have fun rewriting and configuring your CMS/system's correctly!
We don't know that Google is doing this. All we know is that someone said that Google is doing this. Don't believe everything you hear. Or read on the Internet.
