I have been reading these forums for a few days and registered so I can ask for help with SEO for my site. I have a blog site which at the moment is hosted by blogger but I want to move it to a standalone wordpress site but don't know how to get the SEO on it. Also I have another site which has been up for about 3 weeks but although google webmaster tools says it is indexed I need it to move up the SERPS. Any help would be appreciated. thanks
Just really looking for help. Can't really afford to pay for it to be done so just want to learn the basics.
What do you mean you don't know how to get the 'SEO on it' The SEO is your content.....just move your content from blogger.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Moving From Blogger to WordPress 1. Stop and Look at Your New Blog: When the blog is set up, look at the blog to see the first post, a Hello from Mr. WordPress with one comment. This is the default Theme and look of your blog. 2. Basic Set Up: Log into your WordPress Administration Panels and do the following: * Go to Manage > Posts panel and delete the first post. * Go to Comments and delete the first comment. * Go to Users/Profile and enter in the information about you in the appropriate forms. * Go to Options and enter information about your blog in the appropriate forms. 3. Import for Blogger: Go to Manage > Import to begin the import process for Blogger. All post content, comments, and categories are imported. 4. Fix Images: Images, unfortunately, are now hotlinked to your Blogger/Blogspot site which Blogger will not allow. Images need to be uploaded again to your new WordPress blog.
Thanks for that. Will this not count as a duplication of pages and count against me for indexing though
I know that but there are ways to improve the way it is seen by search engines, isn't there? Also in wordpress doesn't the URLs all have long names or can you get a Search Engine Friendly URLs like you can in some CMS.
being direct is at least as important a part of SEO as keyword rich content writing or link recruitment. it is important if you want to increase your conversion rate and not just the number of visitors.Often SEO developers are focused on creating keyword relevant content, and advertisers are focused on finding that great turn-of-phrase to action that will persuade a visitor to make a purchase. But the truth of the matter is that often it is the simple act of making your site clear that will do the most good for your business. clear means direct , (i m talking about redirect method) this means that a potential customer will need to know immediately where they are, what they can do/buy there, and why they should choose you over the competition. second thing is content writing, content writers feel like they need to answer the "why" before the "what" and the "where". This only leads to cumbersome dialogue and weary customers. Proper content needs to quickly confirm where they are and what they can do , Finally, they need to see why you are the right choice instead of your competition, Do not try to present the solution before the problem. When you address these issues you can start to create a site that will interest your customers and help them choose to do deal with you.
