Anyone get these yet? First I heard of it. 2 DVD's arrived in my mailbox today, I didn't order them. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0487116/ Timing sure appears odd to say the least
They have distributed 28,000,000 copies with newspapers recently. Here is a story on it: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D93COGEG1&show_article=1
Thanks for the info. The timing and in 'battle ground states', obviously an attempt to influence the election IMO.
Looking for the video, the site and the preview just give details of what islam is and the call for total islamic rule.
It doesnt mention a candidate from what I gather, just an issue, but yeah, it's probably meant to influence an election. Havent seen anyone use a movie to influence an election before... but only because I didnt go watch Fahrenheit 9/11 when it was released right before the last election.
There are movies with political influence, certainly there are. Big difference however from having a movie, to sending out the move in main battle ground states that comes looking like political propaganda to people who did not even request it.
It does not need to suggest a side to have an obvious agenda. Put fear into people about terrorism, obvious lean to the Republicans. ---BTW I have yet to actually watch it, just read reviews, others inputs, etc.
Did they make you watch it? You are correct, it IS different. Michael Moore made millions on it and used a substantial amount of creative editing to change the facts and DID mention a specific candidate in his attempt to influence an election. This group lost money distributing a message and didnt mention anything but the issue. You assume it is pro-McCain because polls indicate he is perceived by the public as being the candidate better equipped to handle terrorism. To those that think Obama is better equipped to handle the situation it is pro-Obama. If it doesnt even attempt to draw the conclusion for you, it seems pretty hard to get upset. Is there any reason the people sending it should not be able to get their opinion of the dangers of radical muslim fanaticism out to others? Last I heard we were engaged in a bit of a dust-up with that particular group. It cost you nothing to get it. I figure they have as much right to share their message as posters here have. Question: Do they in your opinion have a right to raise the issue as something they want folks to be conscious of?
Who the hell is sending these out? 28m! That must have cost a fortune... it must be one of the Christian evangelical groups... The only people banging on about the threat of Islam to "Western civilization" in Europe are the far-right. Wow! They are really playing the dirty card to win this election
If they dont include any "vote McCain to fix this" it is a pro-Obama ad to anyone that thinks he's better equipped to deal with the issue raised. True statement. How is it a "dirty card" to raise an issue without specifying a candidate?
The Obsession video has been out for a little over a year. You can buy it on Amazon. It isn't propaganda and doesn't endorse either candidate. It just portrays radical Islam as it is with lots of actual footage. The idea is to make people aware of the nature of the threat and to give them something to think about. Personally, I think the video is pretty tame. They could have gone much further. As for the timing, it doesn't endorse either candidate, doesn't assault either political party, and there isn't anything in the film that is fabricated, unlike the timing and content of a certain Michael Moore propaganda movie that I can recall.
That's like saying 'did they make you watch a commercial' The fact is they sent the material out, when not even requested. He did not send it out in a method of campaigning. News organizations, tv shows and others make clips, etc for a candidate. You can not honestly tell me you have a problem with F 9/11 and do not see the fundamental difference with sending this propaganda out. Oh come on now, in most cases 'security' issues fall back to the Republicans. You know it and I know it. They are focusing on 'battle ground states' not anyone who is Pro Obama or McCain, they are going after undecideds. Did I say they shouldn't be allowed to do it? I don't believe I did. Does not take away from the fact it's politically motivated. What does that matter? When did I say they didn't? How does that change the fact that it's obviously politically motivated? Answer, it doesn't.
It is only politically motivated if you and other people believe that one candidate is extraordinarily weak on dealing with this issue. Now who would that be?
Come on Rob I know you're smarter than this. Security issues almost always bring voters to the Republican side. That's like saying sending out a pro 2nd amendment ad would not be for bringing voters to the Republicans simply because it did not specifically state as much. My guess is not specifically stating who to support allowed them to bypass certain laws, the agenda and timing however is crystal clear. My reading is there is 'fabrication' in the film, the timing and placement, come on nobody and I mean nobody is that stupid to not see through this. Sending to battle ground states, during this time, when 'security' usually always equates to votes for Republicans, naming a candidate or not, when Obama is being tied to 'Muslims' left and right. If you believe that it truly is not propaganda I've got a bridge to sell you.
