    Hi Everyone,

I am just wondering about physical HDD failure vs PageRank.. sometimes, some of our web hosting may have physical HDD failure and replace the HDD, then restore the backup data.

Has it ever occurred to you that, when that happens, does PageRank reset too? or how many days are we given before it is reset?

    please let me know

    thanks alot

I do not see how hosting server HDD failure can have an effect on Page Rank, unless it is for sustained periods so much so that those having back links to your site decided that your site no longer existed and deleted those links. Other than that, I don't see the effect.

fantastic.. because two years ago, my hosting server's HDD failed.

took about 3 days to replace the physical HDD and restore the backup data as well as DBs

i am just a bit concerned about "what if our hosting servers are not reliable" thing.

    cheers for the quick reply.

    very much appreciated.

another Q is, i wanted to know how soon PR will be reset if all the links are not working for a certain period of time.

My understanding is that PR is updated only a handful of times a year so I think you're over worrying about this. But what you should be concentrating on is preventing your hosting server from failing. It doesn't matter what your PR is if you have no site and your visitors can't reach it to make a purchase. Consider RAID or entrusting your hosting to a professional hosting company.

    awesome.
    thanks very much

this is the answer i am looking for.

absolutely, most of the hosting does not use RAID systems even though they said they do. as long as the server restore would not take a month, i think PR is not an issue, i presume.. but losing stickiness to the site would be more damaging.

    cheers for the help.....
