Hey all, I've been reading tons of threads lately and nearly every one of them has a banned member or two. What's going on ?
Stupid people who don't follow the rules, we get more and more every day. Chances are they were just inflating their post count so they could post in the BST, which they then violated some big rule and got banned. Either that or they racked up too many Infractions and got a temporary ban (lasts 7-10 days). And not everybody that get's banned is a bad guy. I was temp banned earlier this month, and I'm not a troll But I was stupid and got bitch slapped by the mods for it. It happens
Don't know but i've been reading this forum of late and seen so many threads of the same topic EDIT- 5K posts, Get In
Not all of them are... A great many long time posters, myself included have been banned by following the same rules we've pretty much always followed. It's one part over moderation 2 parts, inexperienced moderators with a hint of power trip and a lack of clear, concise and consistent interpretation of existing rules. YMMV.
I actually think the mods here are better at their job than most large forums. Yes I don't like the fact I get Infractions for stupid things that make no sense whatsoever, but it happens. Power tripping...I'm not sure. It's hard to say/prove because when a mod takes actions against you there is no way to know which one did it, and the reason listed on your User CP is usually 2-3 words that doesn't explain anything. So yes there probably is some power tripping, but I would gladly accept that if there was a way to appeal/hold mods accountable for it - right now no such system exists.
Not true, once you have racked up 10 infractions, the one to expire earliest is your 'unban date'. If you accept emails from moderators/admins, then you get an email regarding your infraction. Although, it is up to the moderator if they actually put a ban reason in there.
Rules change. It's each member's responsibility to follow stickies and announcements in any area here where they choose to post. A lot of members have been banned, because a lot of members have been breaking the rules. And as long as they continue to break the rules, you'll continue to see lots of banned members.
I know it can be hard to get a true impression of how the moderation works when all you see are threads full of red members. As a DP forum member you can't really tell if the thread was quickly moderated with temporary 7-day bans due to a high number of accidental "pm me details" posts, or if it was because the mod spent two hours banning 20 duplicate members who were shilling, rep'ing, and posting false itrader for a thread starter who was selling a non-existent product, scamming legitimate members out of hundreds of dollars. Like I said, you just can't tell...
