I am a google fan. Personally I don't agree with you. Before the other search engine become large enough to beat google, I will not believe it.
21 days ago you didn't even know other engines existed. Is there any option of Google? And now this.... BTW- I see you're an "SEO Professional"
Man, , look into my eyes and tell me that you are not joking... If you state is still strong enough, then please - explain in simple words, what do you mean by "don't just focus on Google". Please, a few steps we should to do? Should we stop getting backlinks, or stop onsite improvements we make? Maybe we should jump like rabbits? Please elaborate, this is highly interesting for me. ps: and the song for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8Y_TRMDFK0
How I wish it were true, but sadly its nonsense. Google is too dominant right now and until a completely different method of search comes along, or something replaces search all together, Google isn't going anywhere.
, Man, that's a real baseless thing to say. Google has power, money and geeks. Only company which can take on it is microsoft
I don't agree with you. If you asked the average person in the street to name a search engine they would say 'Google' every time. All the big search engines of yesteryear are dying (av.com, lycos, ask jeeves etc) so there is no way Googles era is going to be over.
Searchme is nice? Nice for what? To show to your friend and say "yay, what a nice search engine" and nice to forget right after that? Yes, it is very nice. Do Searchme has any guideline for webmasters how to use it? How to make good websites for searchme? Some kind of Pagerank or anything which could lead us?
google is nowhere near being "over" suit yourself if you want to focus on other engines, but the traffic will still come from google with the highest percentage .
It's only natural to think that other search engines will compete with Google. Since both MSN and Yahoo have failed to really put Google under pressure I guess we will see one of the new SE projects becoming popular. Then again it seems like the already established search engines are buying and taking over new challenger. Too bad Yahoo bought Fast, they were really on to something...
May be this is what you wish, but it is not the case, Google still takes over the search engine market, and those search engines you mentioned only did unecessary buzz. For example Cuil guys claimed that their index is many times bigger than Google's, simply not true.
To be honest, I think a search engine coming out of a different region, such as Asia, could cut into Google's territory. Especially as China grows in dominance. The problem is that the general public would need to find the desire to break habits and switch to the other engine. Right now, most people don't even know what Cuil is, let alone that other one.
i not see any real competitor to google for next 5-6 yrs as no one has capable to search like google and by that time if anyone can come close to google search.....google will be ahead again by 5 yrs.... Moral: in order to beat google u need to have better search technology which is future-proof as google are constantly changing...
Focus on getting Google rankings and you most likely will dominate those crappy little search engines as their algorithms are less intelligent.
Also, a simple catchy name, a similar looking homepage and same algo could get people to switch over. For the record, Googles results have been getting worse since they have been penalizing sites.
I agree and will use alternative search engines for my site. I am still having alot of success with Google.
As people (SEO's) figure out how to manipulate the algorithm, then the search engine (Google) becomes potentially less helpful to the users.
Yahoo thought the same thing of ruling the market forever till year 2000 and while google was building its base and right after 2-3 years google was the king. Similarly Google is currently the king for today but it would be difficult to say who will be ruling the market tomorrow. Microsoft never thought of releasing the open source till 90s but they had to do it and open source community is growing like anything.. So my friends dont just live today... live tomorrow for few moments today and see how beautiful the world will be with the search engines. Competition is always good for consumer. GM never thought they will have to face competition but Toyota is ruling the road now.
I cant see why the Google era would end rapidly just because of a fair amount of competition between the different search engines. ;o
