Just come up with your own ideas and you'll do fine. For me, I still find similar ideas duplicate content. Though I'm no search engine, it really decreases my interest in a website if they offer content that have been repeated 1000 times all over the web.

I use duplicate content all over the place (my original content, but used in multiple places) and cannot recall the last time I had any issues, or problems with ranking or disappearing from the search engine results.
