Problem is many of the 'terrorists' in Iraq are not the highly trained terrorists that would be hitting us in the US anyways. Killing them creates more terrorists down the road and in current times. Mistaken bombings killing families create many terrorists, even if it's a mistake try telling that to the family and friends of those we just killed.

The war in Iraq has many innocent victims, we kill both terrorists and normal people. Each victim has family members who will hate us for invading and occupying their country, even if they don't turn into terrorists. And they will not be likely to turn in the terrorists they know. No matter how good the excuses for the war sound to people in the US, the people of Iraq can see right through those excuses. Suppose some other big country decided our president should be taken out, they invade the US, occupy our land, find our president, put him on trial, hang him. And then they stay.... All the while people are being killed, initially soldiers defending our land, then the resistance in various groups, then some radicals, and innocent bystanders...and on and on. How would we react to the invaders? Some people would be trying to kill them, others would be silent supporters of whichever resistance or radical group they feel closest to. Anyone who wanted the invaders to stay would be labeled traitors and collaborators. How are the Iraquis any different?
