Hi all, just like the title says: do I need to upgrade my PayPal account if I'm a freelance writer getting paid via PayPal for what I write? Have you upgraded? Did anybody who hasn't encounter any kind of problem? Wasn't sure whether to post it here or in the payment processing forum. thanks
I am not sure whether all the money you receive is accounted for with tax and everything but it should be. It will be in your best interested to upgrade really, I think it is the sending of money that is more limited than receiving. If you just receive money the usual account should be fine, however, it may have receiving limits. I think if you receive over 1,700 you have to explain why or make sure your account is a business account.
If you make money through Paypal, you need a Premier or Business account. The Personal account is not the account if you want to make money through it. The personal account is more a spending account and for receiving money from friends and family which does not amount to making profit. You may sell some of your personal unwanted items through eBay but that is about it. Paypal offers the various accounts not so that you decide if you want to pay fees or not.
As far as I know,It depends on buyer...You just need to upgrade ur PayPal account if he/she send u money via CC.. I wrote my paypal address by mistake last time..But I find no problem here..
It basically just depends on how much you're making and how you are going to be paid. A personal account can't accept credit card payments more than five times a year (and that's at a really high rate). If you are really making a lot of money in larger amounts, then you might just want to spring for Premier (you need an LLC or some business registration to get a business account). The only real downside of premier is that they take a little over 2% on each transaction and then grab 30 cents a piece. This eats up money quick. Now...it is possible that you can have a premier and a personal account. If you link them to separate bank accounts and don't have them interact, it is perfectly within their terms and actually says so in the FAQ. You could then have small clients go to your personal and the big shots go to premier. Actually requesting this would be a violation of their terms though since you aren't supposed to request any individual help you circumvent fees. Intelligent guessing is a nice gray area though. Final Advice: If you are really going to take this past the spare time level, then just bite the bullet and take up the fees. If you are doing a lot of business, then it just isn't worth the annoying books. Just my 2 cents and probably a bit disjointed, but I hope it made sense.
It basically just depends on how much you're making. If you are making less than $600 a year, probably no need to go business.
Anything related to sales comes under PREMIER or BUSINESS account. If you have a true business with all business information , you should use BUSINESS ACCOUNT or else if you are just doing online works to earn money, use PREMIER ACCOUNT. PERSONAL ACCOUNTS are only used for sending money to relatives and friends. That's it.
I tried to ask PayPal support twice for clarification on this thing but they're impossible, they keep sending me copy-n-pasted messages describing the account types without really answering my question... sigh. For now I make around $500/month and growing, but all the payments are being financed directly through the PayPal balance so right now I have no need to change the account type. I only have a 1000 EUR/day withdrawal limit but I can live with that. Just to be clear, I don't need any of the services offered by the Premier or Business account, but I'm not sure on whether I still need to change to Premier since I'm making money online. I think I'll call PayPal now.
Actually you DO need the services offered by the Premier or Business account and that service is the right to use the account for making profits, ie make money through Paypal. Do you consider what you do as a source of income if so you need the Premier or Business account, it does not care if your customers pays you through existing balances or credit cards. That is not an issue. Like we have been telling you, the personal account is a SPENDING Account (ie Money goes out of your account) and you can receive money from friends and family (people giving you free money or they ask you to buy some stuff for them not amounting to you making any profits) and paypal allows you to sell your personal items which you no longer need via eBay (probably selling them for under their cost price). If what you are doing does not fall under any of the above criteria, you will need a premier/business account. Of course if you plan to stay with your personal account and skirt the risk of getting your account in trouble, the choice is really yours. It would not affect us the least bit, what you plan to do with your account. We just do not want you see you coming back a couple of months later and cursing and swearing at paypal for limiting your account and making your life difficult. When that day happens, you got to remember to blame yourself and no one else about that. Apparently from what you are saying, it looks like all you want is people to agree with you and not really give you real advice.
Alright, I called them and they tried to hide it very well, but they finally said that it's ok to keep the Personal account, and that I can upgrade to Premier if I need to receive lots of payments from credit cards, but I'm not forced to upgrade just because of the payment volume.
Apparently you haven't really read what I wrote . And I was right after all, see the message above...
