Google Says: Images Near Adsense Definitely NOT Allowed

Google has made a post on their Adsense blog clarifying some of the confusion around putting images near adsense.

They have said, Wait for it, images near adsense are NOT allowed.
Images are allowed on the page, But not in a way where they align with the adverts.

What is your opinion about this?was it to be better if it was allowed?
Feel free to share us your opinion.....

It was definitely better then. I had significantly higher CTR. I loved to combine the 336x280 Ad with images on the left. Even the 468 Ads had good CTRs with an 60x60 image to their left.
Back then - as you all remember - one more thing was extremely publisher-friendly: the whole ad was clickable not just the headlines.

But everybody should take care and NOT use images besides the ads. No joking.

Yeah I've seen quite a few people lately sticking Flickr images right alongside adsense ads to increase CTR, they always get caught eventually.

I even had to contact them once when I changed the layout of my site to ask if sticking a rounded shape image at both sides of the advert (to make it have only a rounded corner at the bottom) ... as I thought I'd probably get told off for it, but luckily they allowed that. :p

I'm sorry, but it's not allowed. Had an email conversation with Adsense about that. No way. It was exactly how I placed the images beside the ads and they didnt like it.

I always see that the image has been segregated well by the contents and then place the ads so that it complies with the TOS. But an image placed very next to the ad will definitely improve the CTR but that is not allowed...

I think placing ads just below the images will increase CTR. But it is useless for the advertisers of adsense. That's why ADSENSE blog remained the same matter for the benefit of blogger noobs...

They should take this trick out of the FAQ on this site then. I was already to do this like 5 months ago when I read the FAQ and then someone on here stopped me thankfully.

Anyone who makes the blanket statement that images near ads is not allowed is being overly simplistic. Near is a relative term. Relationship of the image to the ad to the content also needs to be considered. If the image is tied to the content, there is a better chance that it will be allowed.

I have mocked up pages and submitted them to adsense for approval to use. They were of formats that most people in this thread would say was against TOS. The Adsense Team had no problem with the arrangement.

So, if you aren't trying to "pull a fast one" and aren't using the images strictly as eye-candy for the ads, dummy-up a page, tell Adsense that it is just a mock-up and is NOT live nor accessible by anyone and ask them if the arrangement would be okay. If they say no, don't do it. They are pretty good at looking at a page and seeing if you're just trying to draw attention to the ads...actually, most people can probably look at a page and tell that.

If they say yes, do it, and save the email.
