Having grown up in the St. Louis area, and also having been in around several large cities, I can say with almost complete certainty that many of those homeless you see have chosen that route. Particularly the ones that are in rather good physical condition that are holding nice signs asking for help with Amtrak or Greyhound tickets.

My suggestion. Next time you see one with that sign, take them down to the bus station and buy the ticket for them. I doubt you'll find any takers.

There are a number of people that are legitimately homeless. How can you do your part? Volunteer at those soup kitchens. Talk to your local YMCA and ask where there is a food pantry or other places you can donate food, clothes, etc. If you have a little to spare, give it to the organizations that help, or become a volunteer yourself. Never give change to people on the street. They eat and sleep better than you, trust me!

You could help them by telling them that they could apply for government grants for their shelter, employment and living assistance.

I have not seen the Bus sign but I have bought dinner for several homeless that were thankful. On the flip side I took 2 burgers to a homeless man with a sign that states "I will work for food" and he told me to leave. I hope the ones pulling a con are only a small percentage. On a side note the homeless I have encountered seem to have some type of mental disorder. Local and state governments need to address the homeless and come up with help for the mentally ill or the homeless down on their luck.

Some homeless deserve no sympathy, they brought it upon themselves through their lifestyle and don't care enough or are too lazy to get themselves out of it.

Anyways maybe we could help them by finding them decent jobs. A homeless employment agency possibly, which fetches homeless persons, jobs based upon their skills and abilities.

    I agreed.
That they are two kind of homeless, the lazy one and the unfortunate one.

In London (and i think other cities) we have a thing called "the big issue", It's a current affairs and entertainment magazine sold only by homeless people. The magazine was created specifically with the homeless in mind as a way for them to earn money.

We could give the homeless guns, so that they will be safe.

I hand out McDonalds job application forms to the homeless. Handing out money, shelter.. etc will only give them more reason to continue the life they currently lead. They should be given jobs so they can start working their way up again.

I think rather than sending army to other countries and spending great amount of money for them to kill innocents, the govenment could help those homeless with that money.

But it seems that the government doesn't know much about huminity nor they care about it.

    with respect.

Here is a prime example of the dangers of these panhandlers... Don't confuse a panhandler with the homeless. These people make their living doing this.

homeless people are everywhere...but for me, instead of pampering them by giving food, shelter for free (im not saying that we should stop it though) but give them something that they can work on like teach them some handicrafts and sell them. Some people just abuse the kindness of good people for their own sake..besides they still have good hands and feet right. just my 2cents

You might try declaring war on the US, letting us win... then accept a few years of noisy Marines tramping around the country in return for us spending billions of dollars we dont have in order to make your country safe for democracy.

Of course we hate to do things like that when we could spend the money much better preserving the financial health and well being of CEOs that made millions of while driving our economy off a cliff, but if we dont secure Canada for democracy you might fall under the sway of the damned Alaskans.

Worth a shot (figuratively speaking). [Yeah, I'm off topic, just kinda grumpy. Honestly wish you luck on the issue, it's not uncommon.]
