Because it is a design contest. People are competing to see who has the best design or the one the holder likes most.

True but it's a good way to experiment when you've never designed for specific categories. Competing in design contests has taught me more than any books ever will.
the person who wants the "job" ( i.e the buyer ), is not affiliated with Digital point forum staff, there business etc who need a product ( in this case a logo) so would be a bit unfair, and pointless for them to pay every entry, just the ones they like. so this is more of a showcase of everyone's work, then the buyer picks the logo s/he like best, and then pays for the right to use that logo. you'll find with actual contest sites, you will need to pay an entry fee for each contest, that's how they manage to provide multiple prizes. this is purely design sellers competing for the buyer.
That's ridiculous. In the REAL WORLD usually a client seeks out many designers and asks them to show them what each can come up with (in relation to the criteria) and gets a quote and a few design examples from the designer. From their the client chooses the ONE designer with the design they like them most, and work with them from their to perfect that design to the clients liking... Not to mention your not working for free, because you can modify your design to suit something else or sell it to someone else. Your not losing anything, but gaining a lot of things, even if you dont win. Dont be so negative.
ZakCooper , thanks DavidDell , i new here and the idea begin to sound good . for the buyer it is very good . i will not be negative . maybe ,i will use it one day
