if its a new site...its pretty normal...

google (and i imagine other search engines too) take a new site right to the top when first indexed (provided it is well SEOd with good keywords) and then the site begins to drop slowly to take up a position that it deerves...

has happened to me plenty of times...

Yup, sometimes this happens, from page 1, it disappears and then appear again after a few days.

But I notice this more often in google rankings than yahoo.

Search engines do that all the time. Once you are in page 1 and then you go down. If your site is new then you have nothing to worry. New sites are in the first pages and they go down easily. If you have been in the first position for a few weeks now and then you were nowhere to be found then it's time to see what you have done wrong. Like joining those link farms, and everything else which search engines hate.

Work hard and you might see yourself back on the rankings.

Google's recent algorithm is updating the SERP's during loading time. That's why the rankings fluctuate. I don't know about yahoo!

I would worry more about Google where most search traffic comes from...all SE's fluctuate results.

This is exactly what my new site did. I hope it gets back up to where it was. In the meantime I'm just working on my SEO.

This is a great rumor. I think Google created it. I have been recently enjoying a #1 position in Yahoo! and Google for the same exact keyword phrase. I get a little more traffic from Yahoo!. Google markets their SE well, most people actually belioeve they get the most traffic when actually they run neck and neck with Yahoo!

I think it's just a temporary adjustment. After several days, it will be back again.
