Is it going to increase our PR? Say that our website is submitted to the maximum number of websites directories. Will it increase our PR? I heard that it will not increase our PR as Google bot stopped considering Web directories to give PR as anyone will add their website to these directories. If this is true, then is it really waste to submit our website to directories?
backlinks need quality...and these days every body submitting to directories thats why it is happening try to concentrate on other things to get more backlinks..
You also get some exposure. I have hits coming from some obscure directories that I have submitted to. It takes so little time, why worry about what you are or are not getting out of it.
You mean that we get some visits even from directories? Who will be going there to find a website? Answer should be NONE. Then how come we get traffic from directories?
icpathi : Your best bet is to only focus on the top few directories and any that directly focus on your specific niche. A while back we did a study and found that the deeper internal pages of almost all directories were in the Google supplemental index. One way around this is to make SURE which page your link will appear on. If that page has at least a PR1 then it should not be in Google's supplemental index. It is much better and cheaper in the long run to go for quality over quantity these days when i comes to directories.
There are only a handful directories worth submitting to these days. Google have devalued the importance of directories, they see it as selling and buying links/PR Dmoz, Yahoo directory, Botw and a few others are still worth submitting to and even paying for.
It depends on the quality of the directories. If in your niche there aresome good and high traffic directories, go for it. If not, just forget it.
Good SEO and sight building leading to serious monetization of your site requires a much broader approach than simple submission. Think of it as one part of an overall strategy. KJ
Problem now a days are that website directories are a dime a dozen, they are everywhere. To Google is is like buying links, which is something they frown upon. You can hire someone here to submit your website to a thousand directories or more, give them several title tags and descriptions to rotate throughout there submissions. Thing is most of those directories Google will not even really look at because your site will be buried on like page 6 with 50 other links to other websites in your category. Does it build PR, yes if your site has no PR or is at like a PR1 you will see a small jump with the next PR update. As for what Authority Domains said, there is no more Google supplemental index so who even cares about that because to Google they no longer list those results or take them into consideration. You want backlinks, then give people good reasons to link back to your content. I doubt you have a branded name that everyone will link to just because of who you are so do not count on easy free links like that.
I would say, it is much better to concentrate on getting quality backlinks with some real value. You will see better rewards in the long run. J
Aren't you all forgetting something here? I submitted sites years ago to various directories. Some seemed worthwhile, some not so. Some of those small and seemingly pointless directories are now big and highly regarded by some - eg. BOTW. And you'll often have to pay now to get into something that was once free and seen as and 'pointless'.
that is so WRONG of google to be prejudiced for one directory and against another, it is wrong of them to take dmoz word over your word if you start a directory, it reeks of elitism and is plain unfair and wrong by the way isn't yahoo directory many paid submissions too? what is google trying to prove in giving more relevance to stupid dmoz over some other directory?
You can get to a PR3 alone with nothing but free web directories. Google treats web directories like every other site out there. Some of them are junk and Google penalizes them or ignores them. Some of them are good directories and Google treats the link like any other good link. The secret is finding the good directories so you don't waste time submitting to junk directories.
Links represent votes to your site. The more links, the more exposure to search engines. It is a huge factor that affects the SERP. Directory Submission is a great source of one-way link. That's why it isn't a waste of time!
