Here are some points you should always consider when beginning your search engine optimization campaign: 1>> Keyword research, make sure you target the keywords that are going to generate maximum qualified traffic. Use these keywords in your web copy and links. 2>>Unique page titles and meta tags, EVERY page on your website should have its own page title and meta tags describing the topic of the webpage. 3>>Sitemap, make sure your website includes a sitemap. The sitemap must link and be linked to every webpage within your website thus aiding search engines to find all your pages. 4>>Search Engine Submission, if you have made a change to your website or it’s a new site be sure to tell the search engines. Thanks!
Excellent inputs, what i would like to see more is, elaborate point #1 with examples and links, like if I wish to do well in pet food - where can I get data / do research. What is required for me to target the keywords that are going to generate maximum qualified traffic etc. Good one though, keep it up and hope to see more quality posts from you!!
The last point is totally redundant - that's what a sitemap is for and even Google tells you not to bother submitting your site to them in the first place. - http://www.google.com/support/webma...swer=34397&query=submitting+urls&topic=&type= "you don't even need to submit your site to Google. Google is a fully automated search engine that uses software known as "spiders" to crawl the web on a regular basis and find sites to add to our index. In fact, the vast majority of sites listed in our results aren't manually submitted for inclusion, but found and added automatically when our spiders crawl the web."

..and make sure it is error free. Apparently if you have too many errors in a row, the bot navigates away. I heard any more than 4 in a row, the bots will go away.
How do you recommend finding the best keywords? I mean the ones that pay the most and get searched for the most?

I don't really want to spend any money as I'm just starting out. I've got the website up and going wwwnapoleoncc/alliston and wwwbarriehomeinspectionscom... I guess this will just take some time and attention to get it where I want it. The Alliston Home Inspector
Stop cross-posting. I dis-agree with number 4, nowadays, there are more strategies how to tell search engines that you made changes in to your site. Search engines submission are not necessary at this moment of time.
