When ICANN do come about releasing all single character .com. I wouldn't be surprised to see Google.com pick up G.com, but most likely it'll stay a redirect at most.
I don't think we will see Google changing their name any time soon - the marketing required could be huge. If it's not broken why fix it...?
You know I've mistakenly typed youtube.com when trying to type yahoo.com I wonder if they named it that way intentionally? Anyone else done this?
qoogle does sound good, but it doesn't help with any of the factors desribed previosly in this thread... What does google like? Profit. I think they would only change the name if it served the God's of profit. Let me re-hash this for all to see again--- Interesting factor, look at these values google 6 letters @8bits a piece is 48 bits Stated backlinks, 325,000,000 Just off the domain alone, you would use 15,600,000,000 bits, or 14.5 gig at 1024k 14 gig worth of transmission be worth it? Doesnt' sound like much, but lets continue the math... Conservative 1M searches per day 30M / month 360M/ year @ 14.5 gig savings each cycle = 5,220,000,000,000,000 GIG used per year with GOOGLE g 1 letter @8 bits a piece is 8 bits. Much cheaper, efficient, etc. 2,600,000,000 bits, or 2.42143869400024gig at 1024per k 360M/yr@2.42143869400024= 936000000000000000bits or 871,717,929.840088gig Thats a savings of 5,219,999,128,282,071 (Five trillion, two hundred nineteen billion one hundred twenty eight million two hundred eighty two thousand and seventy one)Gig per year...imagine how much quicker it would be if it didn't have to dig through all of those o's, g's, l's,and e's..... We haven't even figured in server costs, I bet this plan would double the overall profits of google in less than 5 years by dropping costs marignally... Talk about going green, this would save TONS of electricity alone! (MB Disk Space + MB Band Width) * Standard Power Consumption Efficiency Index (w/MB) = watts utilized by the website For the standard power consumption efficiency index we went with = .0009 w/MB. That savings of 5,219,999,128,282,071 means 4,697,999,215,453.8639 less watts per year 4697999215.4539KW = 281.82 joules per min or 16909.2 per hour, KWh/148124592 per year. 148124592* 9.58kw/h$= $1,419,033,591.36 save per year in electricity alone. with out considering bandwidth in the above formula... I'm not good at math so someone plz check my numbers and calc if you are!@ Lets figure the search useage increase next:: 1 m searches per month it takes one second longer to type google.com vs G.com that's 1 second gain per search, which leaves 12M seconds per year available, which is about 3,333 hours more available search time that users didn't have before. This means more pageviews, faster time to get the information they want, a happier user, and a cheaper more efficient server side cost. So we will save 1B per year and make our customers experience more pleasent and efficient, while staying less time consuming for both calculation and other data. Think about the big electrical savings, by typing less you save energy. We are in an energy crisis people, we need to wake up. Have you seen the price of gas lately? Energy man... energy Each time you press the keyboard a little bit of electrical current is used. If the whole world typed less such as google.com -> g.com -- on top of the business side of savings the client side of savings is HUGE. Think of the possibilities. This topic gives me goosebumps, I dont see how some can not like it. What would happen to the share price if they could cut costs by a minimal 1.4 billion dollars per year? @141.53B per year in enterprise value, the drop in cost alone would equal about a one percent of total enterprise value, which when forumulated with costs, and other aspects would probably increase the PPS of GOOG by double. ***********Save the world's energy, save user's time, speed up processes, and increase profits******* Save and Increase just became possible, if not plausible.
If they want to dropp the domain how much would the name be auctioned off More than 100 Million Pound Sterling I guess with a PR10 and Alexa rank 2 and aged domain. My.. I think SEDO would be pissing in their trousers for a chance to get that domain auctioned in their site. 50 bucks or 10% fees which one higher kick my ass!!Lol.. ~~
LOL if you read the Google story the founders actually mention that they didnt know they would be dealing with such a massive responsibility but they will be doing their best to serve their audience with utmost care
