Speed and closeness to web host

    For the first time ive purchased UK hosting (im in the UK) and im noticing good speeds, refreshing the page, plus ftp speed.

    Is that probably because of being in the same country as the host? im about 100 miles from the hosting company, their in london, im in birmingham.

    Or maybe just good fast servers, or a bit of both?

    It can be a bit of both but it will not matter much if your site is for a global audience. However, at least its good for you. :)

    Il be setting up .co.uk domains/sites with this account so will be nice if UK visitors get good speeds when visiting it.

    Even just ftping and stuff its refreshing to see it going nice and fast.

    John you are right. For me, accessing FTP servers in the UK is lightening speed. my own servers that are in Texas, USA are much slower.

    Think about it. The closer to home, the shorter distance the data has to travel down wires. Simple really.

    Yes always choose servers close to your hometown and also close to your visitors.
