Any Canadians going to post to maybe clarify where Canada is and if Santa is ready for this year or not???

Do you guys really live in trees? I thought you all lived in igloos. I spoke with a Canadian last weekend in San Francisco, but she was from Alberta and she looked pretty normal, just spoke funny....

We're that big land mass sitting between you and the North Pole, you know, the country that whooped your a$$ last time we had a war. I'm sure some of us do live in trees, we have lots of trees here and I'm sure some live in igloos, but not as many as in Alaska.

Canada? Whooping Americas ass? Same sentence? Surely you are not talking about the war of 1812! Canadians didn't even exist then. The brits got their arses handed to them for the most part. But the war started out bad for americans as I believe Major-General Isaac Brock (british) pushed us out of the land that is known as Canada today. America was at a weak pont.

There was victory for both sides of America and the United Kingdom. Us being pushed out of Canada was at the beginning.

Remember, they consider hockey games to be war, so maybe that's what he meant.

I have to beg my ignorance, and no, not proud of the fact. Easy enough for me to research, but I'd like to hear from you, or any Canadian: Can you (or any Canadian) tell us a bit as to important issues up? Any separatist platforms?

I like Canadians a good deal, from the ones I've come to know. My wife and I honeymooned in the Sault, (Batchawana Bay). You have a beautiful country, from what little we saw - we'd love to get to Quebec City.

Well, right now it's seem like they starting to bash each other up.

One main issue I guess is the economy and Afghanistan.

Liberals got this plan called the Green Shift, which basically lowers lots of taxes like the income taxes. But they will introduce a new tax for pollution consumptions. Basically the new tax will tax polluters pay more and less polluters pay less. And the money will be used for alternative energy to combat the future for the seemly ever increasing price of oil.

But the conservatives say that's too risky for a economy slow down and they are crazy.

Conservatives so far seems to be very bashful in not good ways. Like the latest news the agricultural ministers made this sick joke. And before this like a week ago they had the Liberal leader getting pooped on by a bird.

NDP on the other hand wants to increase taxes and invest more in health care, education and stuff like that.

Green Party, don't know too much about them other than that they are a small party and probably likes to protect the environment and legalize MJ. Um ya they had some pretty good advancements so far but still small party.

And the last noticeable ones are the Bloc Quebecs, which is pretty much just like Quebec's own party thingy.

It's the same crap, just a different country. I personally hate politics so I am not really following it, heck I'm not even sure, nor do I care when the next election is. Now the US election, that has a pretty global impact so I'll find that a lot more interesting.

    1. Here is the story about how American's didn't evade Canada http://www.laurasecord.ca/history.php

    2. Its been a pretty rough campaign here in Canada.

When the conservatives called the election early (and broke a every 4 years there will be an election promise) they had planned to attack the Block & Liberals with the NDP and Greens attacking the Liberals. Well after several conservative gaffs (see pooping leader and a really stupid comment) the conservatives have every party after them.

Currently the Conservatives (similar to your republicans) only saving grace is that the gaffs have been pretty small and the liberals have fallen on their own two feet with the Green Shift plan that no one is explaining. So now the liberals and NDP are focusing on Jobs, at 6% unemployment (which is not that bad).

Conservatives are talking economy and how turmoil is coming and they need to be in power. But they forget too mention two things:
    One - We pump Oil
Two - We don't have a housing crisis up here
Yes for some (like me) our US investments are doing poorly, but on the other side we are making more money and have a higher dollar to by goods with. Of course good times can't last but its not like we are in the great depression.

The NDPs and Jack Layton are having a good time wanting to raise taxes to care for canadians. We are already taxed pretty high and the conservatives dropped taxes last year so it will be a hard sell.

The Greens they are center field and made the most fuss to get their leader in the televised debate.

The Bloc is a Quebec-Only party that historically wants Quebec to separate from Canada. But this time around they are being quite on the "We want to separate" bandwagon.

I'm particularly interested in separatist movements, and nationalism. The Quebec nationalist movement was one of the few movements that seemed to actually mean it - unlike a lot of others, who say "separatism" when what they really seek is better enfranchisement within the national political mothership. I can look this up - but you say the separatist heat is up this time around. How much of an audience is this receiving?

That was kinda old news. As the looks of it now it's not really going to happen. Not much of a commotion going on and plus it will probably never happen.
