*sigh* Its like being stuck in ground hog day with comments like this.

    Forum posting is NOT effective.

Can the next person to make a stupid comment like this, please back it up with some kind of proof of them ranking for some competitive search term using this tactic? So many people make these statements, but can never seem to back them up.

Again, please post some proof of this rather bizarre statement. I've asked several times for someone to show me a site ranking for something competitive and so far everyone has refused to do so. I can only assume its because they can't. So can you provide it?

Relevant wordpress theme sponsor is good for SEO. You'll get lot of relevant back links by sponsor a relevant wordpress theme.

and always "content is the king"

    What do you think Vic?

    Do onpage optimization.
Then write some good articles and submit them.
Also don't forget to use press release to publish news of your website.
    This will help you alot.

I think there is no value long term in WP sponsors. Nothing stands out more as a paid link than the same link in each site with the same template. I would definetely not use this tactic. If you do want to use it I would do like you say though and keep it to relevant themes that definetely wouldn't be used outwith your niche. It would need huge related graphics or something to prevent this. Either way if you rank because of it you'll end up reported.

I wouldn't say content is king, I'd say links are king.

Google can't tell good content. It can only tell really bad content (scraped or duplicate content).

You can start a site and have the best information in your niche, but without links or some sort of promotion nobody will see it, ever. In plenty niches you can have great content and never be able to get natural links.

Buying them here in DP is certainly the fastest and easiest way as you only need to make a thread then you will get a lot of pm's. The quality of links (in general) will be low to medium. For higher quality links, get on google and type in some of your keywords. Just contact the sites that come up and offer them $x for a link.

Offering quality content helps the best.
The problem is the snowball effect. You need to do SEO until you reach that hill, and after that it's easy. That hill is near impossible tho.

I have spent $50K on a high quality award winning web site www.somagenesis.com have linked to hundreds of directories, have numerous reciprocal links to same web sites, a blog, hub pages, squidoo, multiple social bookmark lisitings (digg, stumbleupon, del.icio.us, fave, Diigo, PluIM, LiveJournal) I also belong to linkedin.com, myspace.com,facebook.com, twitter.com. I agressively update them all weekly
I have also submitted numerous quality articles to Goarticles, Ezinearticles, and articlebase.

My PR is still 3 after 3 years. I am organically listed @ #6 on Google for all my industry key words, My Alexa is 700,000, I only get 50 uniques per day!

When I look at my competitions crappy Wordpress web sites and see that they out rank me organically on Google. I just want to scream. I am beginning to doubt that SEO works. I have done it all yet can't seem to move a ahead of my competition after 2 years of agressive SEO. Any thought?

Sometimes homegrown is best, I think the only way to even understand this stuff is to work with it. WOW with that type of budget I could build a network of sites with good PR I imagine...

$50k? All you had to do was buy 2 PR7 links and you'd be done.
